Yep.
Random question; since Dallas has multiple third round picks would you entertain the idea of taking Surtain at 10 and trading back into the first to snag Moehrig? I'm a front seven first guy, but I'd be aggressive to get a great FS like him. Curious to know your thought.
I would check into it, yes.

A secondary of Diggs, Surtain, Moehrig and Wilson would be very nice.

I’d entertain it but I would be just as comfortable taking moehrig at 10 and taking cbs in 2&3

I think you undersell Surtain. I don't want Chido and Lewis cloned again.
Agreed. I think his skills are elite. My only reservation about taking him that high was his supposed lack of speed. But he's shown that he is plenty fast enough.

Mine too. I was worried he was a 4.6 guy possibly. At sub 4.5 I'm not worried. Everything else is there. Killer scheme fit too. Basically the prototype of a shutdown corner in a cover 3.

Yeah, Surtain had a pretty elite workout. He might not be there with the guy from Tech hurt.

Also very possible. I like Horn but not at 10. I think outside of Horn and Surtain I don't see a corner I want in the first. There is a drop to the next tier in my opinion. Farley was in the top group but I'm not taking back issues in the first round again.

You're going to have to show your work better than that. Hockenson is your best example?
Most of the top TE's from this past generation weren't 1st's obviously (Gronk, Witten, Gates, Kelce, Kittle), but Gonzalez was, the seeming heirs to the throne (Hockenson and Fant) were, and even some of the guys who were supposed busts (Vernon Davis, Eric Ebron) were actually Pro Bowlers who were among the league's best for short periods.

But is it really uncommon to have a bunch of top players from outside of the 1st?

The majority of the best OG's over the last 20 or so years (Will Shields, Larry Allen, Marshal Yanda, Jahri Evans) weren't 1st rounders, does that mean we should pass on Zack Martin in the first if he's projected to move inside? How about Rashawn Slater?

I'm sure it's similar for other positions.

The real crux of the Pitts argument is that the guy is arguably a prospect that we've never seen the likes of. If you extrapolate his 8 game stats over a standard 13 he would've put up 1200 yards and 19 TD's. Those are WR stats, or even better in terms of being a red zone threat, and that production is something guys like Hockenson or Fant or whatever other modern highly ranked TE would've needed 2-3 years to replicate.

Outside of Lawrence it's damn near a consensus now that he's probably the cleanest evaluation in terms of translating to the NFL at an elite level, that isn't something we normally hear out of TE's going in the first. He's rare, otherwise nobody here would even want to consider him given our defensive needs.

Possibly but I would rather have Moehrig and Stokes/Wade/Joseph/Campbell/Samuel than Surtain and Molden/Holland/Nasirilldeen
I think Moehrig is a difference maker at FS that this team has been missing for a long time. There looks like a clear drop off after the top 2-3 FS and a better shot at getting one of the top 10 CBs

I believe an elite FS helps us more than an elite CB.

I would also love to have Holland. I think he is going to be really good.

Surtain/Moehrig would be ideal. But we'd more than likely have to trade back up to around 20 or so to get Moehrig. But if we stood pat, Holland would probably be there. And I'd run to the podium with his name as soon as we went on the clock.

My favorite safties are:
Moehrig
Holland
Grant
LeCounte

Give me any of those guys, and I think we will immediately and massively improve our back end.

The redzone threat alone would be exceptional.

And 6 vs 3 is huge.

If Dallas drafts Moehrig at 10, you should be upset at the lost value.

And yeah he’ll be a great player and I’d happy to have him on the team.

But we’d have lost the equivalent of a 2nd or high 3rd we should have received from trading down and taking him where we should have gone.

With Surtain we’re getting the 1-2 best of a solid draft class. The drop off to the 2nd round CBs isn’t high enough to justify taking him 10th overall.

Picks 10 and 44 netting a better secondary seems like a ripoff. It’s the same kind of thinking that’s weakened this team for years.

Pick 10 should net a special player, QB, or lineman. Neither of these two fit that description.

People keep saying this but the drop off is actually pretty damn big. Sure there are good second round corners. But they aren't even close to Surtain in skills.

Pretty much this. Although, I have Grant ahead of Holland.

If presented the opportunity, and the team chose Grant over Holland, I would not complain. Even a little.

Mostly from shock and joy that they chose a highly touted safety.

I'm right with you. And I'll take Holland (Grant)/Surtain over Moerhig/second tier corner.

But no reason to lock ourselves into corner/safety in the first two rounds.

I am getting the feeling we are going to have to trade a lot and move around. We got a lot of draft picks and I can't see how we could hang onto them all even if we nailed every choice.
