Main reason a screen doesn't work is blocking.

Not avoiding the tackle.
Possibly.

But there is definitely something to being shiftier and having more success on those plays.

Owens didn't have the shiftiness, but they'd find him when he was isolated 1-on-1 against a CB on a quick screen, throw it to him, and he'd beat them. Again.... I just don't recall Bryant doing that for big yards.

Depends on the defensive scheme. Lots of time the screen is blocked well but it just puts the WR in a one on one situation with a safety and he needs to make him miss. That's when someone like Harris would do better than Bryant.

I am amazed this is a 100 post thread. Wow.

Oh, so Bryant's pretty good at yards after the catch. Okay.

Then...

;salfdijsa;lfijsf;selfjwef....what the fuck just happened?

But, he's still great at YAC.

Period.

Smitty happened.

Say something silly, and then even after admitting he was wrong defend it and spin it away from the original discussion to make "a point".

It's not something new.

I will work on using his skin. I'm fairly sure Carp is tired of me using his anyway.

This year Harris has 2 receptions for 12 yards on passes thrown behind the LOS. All 12 of that came on one completion.

Dez has 3 for 10.

Last year Harris had 3 receptions for 39 yards on passes behind LOS.

Dez had 8 for 26.

Dez's splits from 1-10 yards are better than Harris's.

really not enough of a sample size to say anything.

Well, Harris is averaging 6 ypc this year on such passes, where Bryant is averaging a little over 3 ypc.

Last year Harris averaged 13 ypc on such passes, where Bryant averaged a little over 3.

Is my math right on those?

Yeah and those numbers are meaningless because all it takes is one housed 60 yarder to destroy your sample size.

Well if Dez starts ripping off 60 yarders on screens, then great, that's what I want him to do.

But I'm saying as of right now he hasn't and thus I'd prefer to give those looks to Harris, who in a limited sample size, does better at them.

If Harris's reps in those situations increases and his production drops down to 8 for 26, then we can go back to giving them to Dez.

God damn, I've never seen a fanbase fight so hard against the notion that a role player might be better used situationally than an every down player. It's like the notion is offensive to some people that Bryant isn't the best at everything.

Hate to agree with Smitty but he's right. Our offense can't be based solely around throwing to Dez and nobody else. Harris is a short guy who shows some elusiveness in the open field and using him on WR screens and similar makes perfect sense.

You're arguing just as vehemently in the opposite direction.

There isn't enough of a sample size to know. You know who's seen enough screens run to all our receivers to decide who should get those opportunities? The coaches.

Shut up.
