I think it's fair to say there are already people who have gotten the virus and recovered without even realizing it. Some people show no symptoms while others show mild enough symptoms that they think it's just allergies or a cold. Those people will never test positive but they will already be cleared from ever getting it either. So I think it's a little difficult to predict how it is progressing right now. It's probably been increasing at a higher rate than even your numbers realize but it's also why things will level out.

Yeah I don't get it. There is a shortage of masks, we need to do everything we can to preserve the supplies we have. How is Trump being an asshole to a doctor or nurse? All he is saying is that if the masks can be sanitized and reused we need to implement procedures to do this.

I think the people claiming outrage are the people who already hated Trump and are trying to get others who are clueless also upset.

...and I’ll say this, @L.T. Fan. As the elder statesman of the board, I respect your opinions and sincerely am trying to understand your logic. Learn from you, if you will. So if it comes across as interrogation, then that’s my fault and apologies.

Opinion 1: If news media reporting numbers from legitimate orgs like WHO/CDC are sensationalizing mass hysteria, then what should a responsible news org report?

Opinion 2: Going back to the crux of the discussion about projections and ‘what ifs’, should the government only begin considering action once a certain threshold of actual stats have happened, ie confirmed cases or deaths have occurred?
Opinion 1. News organizations have a responsibility to not make a bad situation worse by reporting information the is likely to create mass hysteria. What if’s (projections) that have this effect would fall under this category if it served no useful purpose. Actual statistics are adequate enough to inform without sensationalism in my opinion. I wonder how much actual panic buying would have occurred if quick trigger and knee jerk people had not been manipulated by sensationalism. The net effect is that all the panic activity made it even more difficult to meet the crisis in a reasonable manner. Now the disruptive process of people needing to run all over town to acquire something just exposes them even more.

Opinion 2. Health and medical organizations have a legitimate need to make projections of impending dangers because they must prepare governments and medical responders for what may become a reality. Sometimes it is necessary however to keep this information in abeyance for essentially the same reasons outlined in opinion 1. The last thing that governments and responders need is a mass hysteria undermining their mission. News organizations however could create a situation to make a difficult situation worse by taking a position that the public has a right to know and the news people have a right to inform. The latter while possibly true can sometimes create more problems and hinder the governments role of what is best for public policy.

Even with these “mass hysteria” causing reports what percentage do you believe have voluntarily changed their lifestyle to adjust to this?
How many do you think would without someone explaining what the probable outcomes will be?
You still think the flu is a much bigger problem than CV, or at least compare it as a reason why CV isn’t something that should alter life as we know it.

I hope one of them was that little asshole who said "If I get Corona, I get Corona. That's not gonna stop me from partying!".

I swear I have never seen people in my neighborhood outside more than I have seen them in the last three days.

Granted, some were doing yardwork. But two houses around me have actually had parties. With a lot of people showing up. Groups of ten or more. Just stupid.

his lawyers probably smuggled it to him so he could get out of his cell for a few days
It is a bit disturbing that celebrities and politicians are getting tested without symptoms.

Lends credence to the caste system in terms of testing availability.

Very good article
I dont think this guy discounts the information he is relying upon that is coming out of China enough, his article states:

As of today, there are 0 daily new cases of coronavirus in the entire 60 million-big region of Hubei.
come on, does anyone really believe that?

I'd like to see his analysis done without Chinese data, I suspect it would make the situation look even more bleak

Yes it would and he says as much, not only because of the mistrust in Chinese info, but also because this thing is mutating and becoming more and more aggressive as viruses tend.
