I agree with you that people are stupid and have to protected from themselves occasionally, but for the government to mandate it could spell disaster for most small businesses. Especially if they mandate they pay their employees while they are closed.
Sure, I get that.

And that is a much bigger fear of mine than catching the virus itself. The impact that this is having on the economy could be devastating. It's not just small businesses either.

Even the big boys are going to be hurting the longer that these restrictions and precautions go on.

This is my take on this. It should be up to the individual businesses to shut down or not. The government shouldn't be the ones dictating this.
Watched a lot of videos on this yesterday. When you see videos of Chinese life, there's not as much activity as usual, but there are people walking around and going about their lives. Most have masks on. Can't or won't we get to a point where we wear N95 masks, maybe gloves, and start going about our business? We can't just shut the entire economy down for very long. The government can't pay for everything no matter how much some people may want them to.

Liberal douchebag Gavin Newsome apparently said yesterday that all bars are ordered closed and restaurants need to run at half capacity.

If he pokes his head out again and demands restaurants close, you’ll be able to see me on the news because I’m not closing shit.

I’ll close when Gavin Newspme writes me a check to cover my bills for as long as he wants me closed.

So, I’ll either be given a check, or I’ll be hauled off to jail for defying his orders. I don’t depend on the government to take care of me, I don’t need them to tell me when I can work and when I can’t.

“People are stupid.” Some people are stupid but the majority are not. What is regarded as the greatest country in the history of the world was not built by generations of stupid people. Nor was it made by government control. It has been with a combination of both. Having said that who can make rules for contingencies like the Coronavirus that is best for everyone? Some say I will make my own rules while others say the responsibility is for government to protect me from harm.

No one will actually prevail in this debate because in my view it will take both because neither can completely solve the problems. In the meantime just use some common sense about all this and take the same precautions you would take against getting infected in the past with all the other microscopic sickness agents that surrounds us every day.

Panic is the worst enemy for everyone when the emergency whistle is blown and in my view has raised its head again. If you are reasonably healthy and practice know hygiene habits you will survive this round of evolving health hazards.

Oh yeah. Last week was insane and it was mostly take out. We stocked up on Togo containers and this week we’re doing “family meal deals”, gotta change with the times or get left behind.

I’m super concerned that so many people feel like this shutdown is ok. Like they are just all in ok with it.

This is ridiculous.
Totally agree. But then so many don't even consider the economy. It's like they think everything comes from thin air, that nothing exists without people going out and creating it.

That's why I think it won't be long before people go to work all masked up even if there is a risk. Short term this feels like a snow day at school, but that won't last long.

I don’t like this, either. There are a LOT of small businesses that are going to go belly up because of this.

I get being cautious. But this is getting ridiculous. North Dakota has ONE confirmed case, in a wide spread, rural state. And they are starting to shut down schools, bars, restaurants, etc...

Like Sheik said, it's just unbelievable how many people seem to be okay with this.

He fucking better not. Government institutions, sure, but not everything. Our economy would tank and it would take us a damn long time to recover from it.

This was making the rounds last night. Not a fan of Snopes, but they said it wasn't true.
