Jerry did wink when he said "he's always felt that way", is it possible Jerry see's he was part of the problem and that was a dig at himself and that's why he's letting McCarthy do this his way?
sure but as everyone here knows I'm far to jaded after 25 years to believe its likely.

But who am I to doubt the illustrious GM, he said it himself, no one has more experience or has gone to more combines

Jerry was also acting uncharacteristic with his "I heard bells" statement on McCarthy. I mean damn, find you a girl that looks at you like he looked at MM during that PC

I think it's partially because he was trying to help Garrett who he knew was over his head. How is a guy going to pick a staff when he wasn't qualified to be a head coach. Now he has a guy who has been there, done that and actually knows good coaches to hire.
FUCK. Dan Reeves was all set to come in GOD FUCKING DAMN IT.

Full disclosure, when Wade was hired in 07 I was hardcore lobbying for Dan Reeves.

McCarthy's been a Cowboy for <72 hours and he's already got ST, DL, OL and DC locked up.

If hired as a HC with carte blanche on his staff, who would Garrett's Gang?

Garrett never really networked a lot where he had a bunch of guys from the coaching fraternity to pull from. It was usually people and players from inside the Cowboys organization that he was familiar with. That could explain a lot of the cultural things that seem to have been a problem for a long time.

Being articulate isn'ta pre-requisite for being a great NFL HC.
in fact, Garrett was very articulate, despite relying on empty and repetitive rhetoric most of the time. He is well spoken.

raising the question: Is Jerry trying to change? Who here believes he is?
I don't know, but this is a damn good start.

I think he is changing based on the coach.
That and seeing the clock ticking.

He's finally looking like age is starting to get to him so he may be thinking about how much time he has left to see them win a SB.
