It is another indictment of Garrett's arrogance that the guy doesn't feel like he needs it.

Even if he were a good coach, it's still very useful to have that sort of information at your disposal. But it's shocking to me that a guy who is notorious for consistently making terrible decisions and struggling with fundamental football scenarios would think he's too good for it.

I could see Garrett the executive pull the stunt that Univ. of Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez has pulled a few times.

Whenever there's a coaching change Alvarez inserts himself as head coach of the football team.

Marvin Lewis gets fired mid-way through the season and Garrett inserts himself as interim coach.

It really isn't. Romo had to be the OC from the line of scrimmage most of the time and he never got beyond running "Coryell for Dummies" as a playbook. I could name a few dozen coaches that were out of work at the time that could have been dusted off and would have come in and done a better job day 1, not to mention all the college coaches who could have.

I think McCarthy will be the hire.

I think Meyer is the potential home run, but he's far riskier just based on historically the jump from college is littered with failure.

McCarthy has proven he can win a championship in the NFL with the right roster. There isn't a ceiling like there seems to be with a guy like Garrett.

Yes, McCarthy had Rodgers. But come to mention it, Belichick never won a championship without Brady, Johnson never won without Aikman, Walsh never won without Montana, Landry never won without Staubach, Noll never won without Bradshaw, Shanahan never won without Elway. I mean, it's actually pretty unusual for a HC to win without a good QB.
