Its not that I would want Kubiak because I don't. I just think bringing back Garrett is a waste in any capacity. I think his message is lost and so far out of touch that it would be worse for the team. Change is needed and even if we dont want Kubiak maybe that change works for a short period of time.
I mean, the real answer is, it doesn't have to be either, and it shouldn't be.

Garrett can't really come back at this point. But by the same token if Kubiak is the next hire, it's fucking insane.

Of course Jerry has been putting Kubiak's name on coaching search lists I think back from the pre-Parcells days. I feel like Kubiak was in the running when they hired Chan Gailey for chrissakes. It seems like that guy is ALWAYS on the interview list for us.

Of course, that just tells you who we are dealing with and why it was probably right to give Garrett a long leash.

Completely fine?

Why the hell would anyone want that loser anywhere near this team after having to endure 10 years of his stank?

What makes you think that same narrow-minded arrogance that be brought as a coach wouldn't carry over to that position?

He thinks he knows better than everybody and it's been clear for years, including this one, that he overrode his offensive coordinators and forced his plays and gameplans onto them.

So what do you think he would do to the head coach below him?

No, get that fucking guy as far away from Dallas as possible. I don't even want him serving popcorn in the stadium.

I cannot believe after what we've seen from him as the HC that anyone would be ok with him remaining part of this organization in any capacity.

Even if he ended up coaching high school football in Dallas, he'd still be way too close for comfort for my liking.

Kubiak, fucking shoot me. I'd stick with Garrett over him.
This statement is simply dumbfounding to me. In what possible way is Kubiak worse than Garrett? Kubiak won a Superbowl with a completely washed up Manning. He won as many playoff games in Houston with super spare Matt Freaking Schaub as Garrett did in a decade here with stacked teams.

Why in the world would you or anyone take Garrett over him?

Fuck that. Just because Kubiak might have been on some list, certainly doesn't mean it was right to give Garrett a long leash.

Kubiak wouldn't be at the top of the list of HC I would want to be brought in. But I'd take him over Garrett in a heartbeat. We absolutely, positively, KNOW that Garrett couldn't get it done. With Kubiak, at least there is the possibility. And the good thing about him over Garrett...? He isn't coated in Jones family teflon. If he didn't get it done, I seriously doubt he'd get to waste 10 Goddamn years before being shown the door.

I'd take Kubiak over Garrett but he certainly wouldn't be my first choice, kind of along the lines of a Ron Rivera. A safe, high floor/low ceiling type of hire whose reputation is inflated because they had a one-off SB run a few years ago.

Neither of them are dumpster fire HC's but in general they're middle of the road, average to above average HC's who will probably have you competitive most years but there is a very low probability you're getting a long-term McVay/Tomlin/Shannahan type hire.

I mean, Kubiak was fired in Houston after a generally uninspiring 6 or so years and Rivera was nearly fired about 3 times in Carolina before their fluke 2015 run.

There is no need to rehash the whole debate over the pros and cons of Jason Garrett, suffice to say, if you see no pros at all, then you aren't really being honest with yourself.

But I think it's enough to say, given that Garrett is gone regardless and it's not a choice between Garrett and Kubiak, that I have very little interest in Gary Kubiak as the replacement.

I think everyone agrees on this. No one here actually wants Kubiak. Our goal here shouldn't be to get someone better than Garrett. Our goal is to get the best coach possible. Kubiak may be better but he certainly isn't the best coach possible.

For the record, I don't think hiring Meyer or Riley is necessarily a better hire than a guy like Campbell, and I'd argue that I'd rather have Zimmer than either of them.

Sure, they're sexier/more exciting names, college success is enticing and Riley certainly looks like he has a "McVay"-type of offensive mind, but the fact of the matter is that there is a huge learning curve going from college to the NFL and even the best college HC's often struggle with the transition. I'd be willing to see what happens with either of them just because I'm willing to try anything but Garrett at this point, but hiring either of them would be a massive risk.

There is a very credible argument that Campbell (or another top-flight assistant like Roman, etc.) and certainly Zimmer would be better hires.

God damn it, I'm going to be in a movie theater at that time. If it is announced and I'm not around, please know that I will party when I get out of the movie.

I think that Dan Campbell could be a good hire. He has coached in the NFL for 9 years. As a TE coach, assistant HC, and as an interim HC. The last 4 years with Sean Payton. He seems to be discipline type of guy, and God knows we could use that here. And as a former player here, (under Parcells) he has first hand knowledge of what it would be like to be part of a Jerry Jones team.

Fuck, that picture of Garrett hugging his wife, though.
Feh.

Do you think he felt bad for Wade when he backstabbed him?

Jason Garrett lived a very charmed life. He got to remain the HC of the NFL's most popular team for much much longer than he deserved and he got paid millions and millions while doing so.

No one should feel sorry for that guy.

I wish I could end my tenure with my company with a picture hugging my wife as I reflect back on how bad I was at my job and how now I'd have to get over it by finding ways for us to spend the 40 million I made from it.

Yeah, poor fucking Garrett.

That picture just makes me feel so bad for him......or not.
