So what do you call these last 10 years of Garrett that you've been supportive of?Not really interested in Urban Meyer. Feel like that’s a disaster.

Low hanging fruit...So what do you call these last 10 years of Garrett that you've been supportive of?
College coaches of big programs in general don’t often work out in the NFL because being Administrators and recruiters at that level (NCAA) is what works.Meyer has always been known for his dynamic offense. Now in the past most would say it's not an NFL offense but now an awful lot of NFL offenses look similar. And what I like about Meyer is that he hasn't ignored the defense in the process.
No idea why you get an Administrator vibe from him. Although at this point even that would be a step up from Garrett.
Who is defending Garrett at this point? I literally just said this has been the worst coaching job of his career. In fact I’ll applaud the team because they seem to be getting their ducks in a row pre-firing which is kinda what I said needs to happen: “Targeted upgrade,” not a coaching search that results in some run of the mill coordinator being selected. So what do you call these last 10 years of Garrett that you've been supportive of?
Bowling Green, Utah and Florida all became great under him rught away. With lots of the talent that was already there. Meyer isn't just Ohio State.College coaches of big programs in general don’t often work out in the NFL because being Administrators and recruiters at that level (NCAA) is what works.
It's normal to be skeptical because I too used to be that way with college coaches due to the failure rate of so many, but the way the league is going now it enables college coaches to be more successful than ever.Maybe, but I remain skeptical. These big time college coaches have not seemed to work in the NFL.
Saban, Spurrier, etc. Carroll did, but he was an NFL guy first, then went to college, then came back.
That I at least understand. The games are very different. I'm open to a college coach but I also realize that there are very few Jimmy Johnson style success stories of a guy who comes from college and succeeds right away in the NFL.Maybe, but I remain skeptical. These big time college coaches have not seemed to work in the NFL.

I worry about this defense more than anything. And as great as Riley would be for our offense my biggest concern would be his ability to put together a great defensive coaching staff. You can't win in the NFL playing defense the way we are. It's not a pass rush/talent thing anymore. It's a coaching/philosophy issue. And I'm not sure Riley has the knowledge or ability to change that.I'm not in love with Meyer either although I'd be willing to give anything a shot after 10 years of Garrett. I don't want a coach who isn't able to run an offense without relying on a QB running the ball 10-15 times a game though.
Riley seems to dial the QB running up/down based on who he has (Mayfield ran significantly less) but the main concern I'd have with Meyer is whether or not he can attract an NFL staff and whether or not his offense can operate without being centered significantly around the QB running.
You should be more concerned about Jones shoving some of these shitty assistants down his throat.the main concern I'd have with Meyer is whether or not he can attract an NFL staff
I mean Haskins didn't run it that much at Ohio State did he?Riley seems to dial the QB running up/down based on who he has (Mayfield ran significantly less) but the main concern I'd have with Meyer is whether or not he can attract an NFL staff and whether or not his offense can operate without being centered significantly around the QB running.
I've flopped on this but I'm really hoping for a defensive minded hard ass coach. I think this offense needs to be better but we have all seen that undeer Moore/Kitna this offense can be explosive.I already assume Jerry is going to try to get the next HC to keep Moore and maybe Richard. The best we can hope for is that they hire someone like Quinn or Rivera as DC.
I am loathe to underestimate his stupidity, and the Garrett example is his track record, but man that would be so stupid.I already assume Jerry is going to try to get the next HC to keep Moore and maybe Richard.
Well, Haskins can't really run.I mean Haskins didn't run it that much at Ohio State did he?
True, he didn't, although that season was certainly way out of the norm for Meyer. I remember at Florida their offense kind of sputtered with Chris Leak until Meyer figured out he could basically have him split time with Tebow whenever they wanted the threat of a QB run.I mean Haskins didn't run it that much at Ohio State did he?
They did really well with that big, fat and slow QB not long ago too. Cardale Jones I think.True, he didn't, although that season was certainly way out of the norm for Meyer. I certainly hope if Meyer is the hire that he could adapt to the NFL and have an offense with just as much creativity/explosiveness without relying on the QB running 10-15 times a game, but it's an unkn
