Microcosm of the whole season last two games. Rodney blows a save then Peralta blows a lead.
With the way your bullpen has performed this season, I thought for sure the Sox were gonna blow that one open sooner but the Rays made it very interesting until the end.

Now, we take care of Detroit. :viking

Feh, I hope the A's take care of them and then Boston.

Pirates/A's would be fun to watch.

The Red Sox used to be my 2nd favorite team back in the late 80s and early 90s.

Boggs, Greenwell, Clemens, Dewey Evans, Jody Reed, Ellis Burks.

I loved those guys.

They didn't win anything but they were entertaining.

Jason Heyward kind of reminds of of Burks. Burks had tons of potential but was always battling injuries so he ended up having a good career but he was nowhere near as good as people thought he'd be. That's kind of the same road that Heyward is traveling down.

Burks kind of finished up strong but that was after he left Boston and I just didn't care anymore.

Wade Boggs played for Boston once? Huh, never knew that. I only know him as one man.

He only did that as a favor to his hometown since he's a Tampa native.

Probably. I am rooting for the Dodgers and Tigers now though.
and if they do you guys can blame the Rangers. Both teams that beat the Rangers will have won 2 world series each. It will just be Karma rubbing it in our faces all over.

Would the Detroit Tigers really trade Max Scherzer this winter?

Well, with Scherzer one year away from free agency and Scott Boras as his agent, it could be a serious possibility, according to CBS Sports’ Danny Knobler.

Scherzer, coming off a 21-3 season and a likely American League Cy Young award coming later this fall, will likely command a salary around $20 million by next year and the Tigers already have three players – Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Justin Verlander – making at least as much, Knobler writes.

Scherzer signed a one-year, $6.725-million deal to avoid arbitration last off-season.

“And while the Tigers have been one of baseball's biggest spenders in recent years, there's some uncertainty if they'll continue to spend as much in the years to come,” Knobler argues.

Of course, the decision could hinge on whether the Tigers win tonight’s Game 5 of the ALDS against the Oakland Athletics – and whether they complete their World Series run.

And if the Tigers do decide trading Scherzer may be a good idea this winter, teams interested could include the Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals and the Baltimore Orioles, Knobler writes.

“The Nationals have long had interest in Scherzer, and have enough young pitching to get a deal done,” Knobler says. “The Rangers, who could chase Price, are another team with plenty of prospects and a need for a top pitcher. The Cardinals seem to churn out quality pitchers, but could believe that as a Missouri native, Scherzer would be more inclined to stay with them if they traded for him. The Orioles could be another possibility.”

You can read more here.

Keep in mind, as blasphemous as a Scherzer trade may seem, the Tigers would risk losing him for nothing following the 2014 season if they don’t trade him.

Furthermore, the Tigers faced a similar situation in 2009 with outfielder and fan favorite Curtis Granderson, in terms of cutting payroll, before ultimately trading him to the New York Yankees in a 3-team deal for Austin Jackson, Phil Coke and – of course – Scherzer.

Manager Joe Maddon told Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune that change is part of the Rays culture, and it's because of that reality that ace left-hander David Price is mentally preparing for a trade this offseason, writes Mooney. Price spoke to reporters on a conference call and offered the following take:

“If you go with what's been done in the past, I guess you're going to have to think you're going to get traded ... This is a place I love to be. My teammates and everyone in the organization knows that. It's part of baseball and it's something I've seen go on, it's kind of something I somewhat prepared myself for."

Teammates Alex Cobb and Ben Zobrist both say that they try not to think about the fact that this could have been Price's final season with the team and that they hope the Rays find a way to retain him. However, as Price alluded to, the Rays have a history of selling high on their starters as their price tag begins to rise.

The 28-year-old Price was the first overall pick in the 2007 draft and has blossomed into one of the game's best pitchers, taking home the AL Cy Young Award in 2012. Like Shields, he has two years of team control remaining , but Price has been the more consistently dominant of the two since his 2010 breakout season.

According to industry sources, the Yankees are going to be serious players in the Masahiro Tanaka bidding battle next month, hoping to fill crater-sized holes in their rotation with a Japanese pitcher who wowed scouts this year.

Based on several executives’ opinions, the posting price to the Golden Eagles will be in the $60 million range. If the team accepts the bid, the winning team has to sign Tanaka to a contract. If they can’t reach a deal, Tanaka goes back to the Golden Eagles.

A big plus for the Yankees, whose goal is stay under $189 million next season, is the posting fee doesn’t count toward a team’s payroll. However, the contract does, and it could be five years for $60 million.

“He is better than Darvish because he is a strike thrower,’’ the scout said. “Overall, Darvish’s stuff might be a little bit better:lol, but this guy knows how to pitch. He is like Kuroda, he has a lot of guts. He throws four pitches but when it gets to [stone]-cutting time, it’s fastball and splitter.’’

Late in games this year Tanaka’s fastball reached 95 mph, and he features an overhand curveball that is 20 mph slower than the fastball.

Some evaluators believe Tanaka could be the best pitcher ever to come from Japan.

The Rays have a history of selling high on players they can't afford to keep. If Price wants to stay, they would keep him. But he wants a crazy contract that only a few teams can offer. I don't blame him and I look forward to what we can get in return, but I hate articles like this that make it sound like he's sad to walk when it's his choice.
