So Todd Archer is wrong then.
You are talking one deal with escalators triggered by playing time and one that is not.

Dude, just enjoy this one apparent small victory.

There will be plenty more incompetence to feast on in the future.

If Sean Lee makes his playing time targets, he gets more per year than Patrick Willis.

That is my understanding of this deal.

Would have been nice to see it come in a bit less than that, is all. Since he's never made a Pro Bowl or anything.

It's a great deal...it is contingent on him staying healthy though...but he wants to play.

Maybe in a vacuum it's a great deal.

For us, that is a shit ton of money. If he stays healthy, great, but he's also the highest paid MLB in the league then.

I'd like to know where we are getting the cap space from.

ALL IS WELL

I'm not saying I regret this deal. Let's acknowledge that there are problems brewing, though, and that it would have been applaud worthy if we could have gotten him at a discount.

This is not a discount.

Really? The pro bowl is a big deal to you?

And honestly, the chances of that happening are next to zero.

Even Willis has had his injury issues.

In all reality, it is more of a team friendly deal than any I have seen from this franchise considering the trade offs.

Signing Lee is a risk regardless. We at least took some steps to protect ourselves financially, while providing a cushion.

In a way, it is a sad contract that is good for the team, potentially good for the player, but ultimately illustrates how badly we have handled other contracts in the past.

I wouldn't waste time worrying about it though.

This is truly a wait and see.

It's really only team-friendly because we're protected if he gets hurt.

I just wonder who doesn't get to stay now because Lee got his. Probably a lineman.

:lol

Nobody has to get cut here.

It just means we probably can't sign some fat old semi-retired OL off of his couch for more than he's worth.

I didn't mean someone gets cut this year, I mean, eventually, the cap space is gonna run out. Sometime in the future.

We give megadeals to every important player. This is another one, it is not a discount.

Again, not saying it's a bad deal. Just wish we could get a steal for once.

It very much is a discount if you figure in Lee's history.

Damn, you are acting like he's suddenly going to become the MLB version of Brett Favre. Chances are pretty good he won't.

And what team gets these "steals" you are talking about when negotiating with their own good young players.

This is nothing like what Jerry and Stephen have got bent over in the past.

If you are freaking out over this, wait until Dez Bryant's deal is done. You might just hang yourself.

A discount is getting paid as the highest MLB in the league?

Jesus. I guess he would have gotten QB money on the open market.

Damn, you are acting like he's suddenly going to become the MLB version of Brett Favre. Chances are pretty good he won't.
And if he does miss half the games, we're giving 6 years, $42 million to a guy who only plays part time. That's not good either.

This is nothing like what Jerry and Stephen have got bent over in the past.
I don't agree at all. I think the Witten contract was much more reasonable than this, so was Romo's first deal.

This looks like the Austin deal to me. Back when we all loved it, which, by the way, we did at the time.

And what team gets these "steals" you are talking about when negotiating with their own good young players.
So no team ever gets a good young player for less than highest yearly salary in the league?

If you are freaking out over this, wait until Dez Bryant's deal is done. You might just hang yourself.
I'm not freaking out. I'm just saying that we did not get any kind of bargain here. This is just the going rate; unfortunately, we're all market valued out because our investments keep going tits up.

I'm sure I will say the same thing if Bryant becomes the league's top paid receiver. It's not a steal to pay the guy as the top WR in the league. He could be, but he hasn't proven it yet. We better be right on the projection, is all.

Only Schmitty would choose to go with potential salary over guaranteed money when evaluating a deal. Oh, it fits his argument. Makes sense now.

Maybe it will prevent us from keeping a corner. Maybe this is Claiborne's re-up money we're spending.

This stands a good chance of being the smartest money we've spent in awhile. Lee absolutely gave us a hometown discount with the injury clause.

Or.... that my argument came into being BECAUSE of the potential salary. Either way, really.
