I'm tracking this for the Mets too...they have some money now and a less than stellar 1B. They made a deal for more international slot money too. Time to spend Sandy.
Abreu, a 26-year-old first baseman, has played professionally in Cuba since the 2003-04 season, so he will be able to sign as a free agent exempt from the international signing bonus pools, with a massive major league contract likely headed his way.

LOL.. that was in the article.....

Kershaw's Wrath ‏@Geeman1026
From 2009-212, Jose Abreu (Cuban baseball's Barry Bonds?) hit 98 homers in 780 AB's. That's barely over a season in MLB. #wow

Source: Cuban José Dariel Abreu is in Haiti right now after defecting from his national team.

I think Leonys Martin was a teammate of Abreu. That gives the edge to Texas. You other teams need not try.

Yu had the no no thru 8 and 1/3 and then gave up a dinger to lose it. Poop.
Twice against them he give up 1 hit. Damn! But it will happen for him someday.

I wish they had played the Rangers this year so I could tomahawk chop at the Ballpark.
Yeah, Racist!

Wouldn't that be sweet, a 1st baseman that can actually hit HRs consistently. Geez.

Andrew Albers. Rookie starting pitcher recently called up for the Twins. His first start, he pitched 8 1/3 shutout innings. Was pulled because he walked one and looked to be out of gas in the 9th of a close game. Tonight, pitched a complete game 2 hit, no walks shutout in his 2nd start. 17 1/3 scoreless inning streak to start a career. Not bad. Is it possible the Twins might have finally found a starting pitcher? He doesn't have a huge arm. Fastball tops out at around 87 mph. But he has a plus breaking pitch and changeup. Probably just new and nobody has the book on him yet, but sure is nice to see competent starting pitching in Minnesota. Even for a short while.

He's 27 years old, tho'. Had Tommy John surgery a few years ago and was slow to recover. Has bounced around, Twins signed him to a minor league contract this spring. I'm sure he's probably just a flash in the pan, but will be fun to watch how long he can ride this streak.

I know fast balls are nice, but I think the league needs another Maddox type pitcher. I'd love to see it in the National league though! :lol

With Berkman on his way back I doubt we bite.

I'm actually not 100% sure I feel like he would even be an upgrade. He's 37 and has kinda fallen off a little bit this year.

You guys looking for a first baseman? Twins just placed Justin Morneau on waivers. 32 years old, and seems to be past his concussion problems. Had a horrid July, but has been on fire so far in August. I hate to see him go, but understand it.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Justin Morneau, who was reportedly placed on revocable waivers on Monday, was in the lineup for the Twins at first base on Wednesday against the Indians.

The waiver deadline for Morneau expired at noon CT on Wednesday, and the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported that he cleared waivers.

Morneau, who is making $14 million this season in the last year of his six-year, $80 million contract, is now free to be traded to any team this season. Morneau is set to earn roughly $3.6 million for the rest of the year, but must be traded by the end of August to be eligible to play in the postseason. The Yankees, Rays, Orioles and Red Sox are among teams that expressed interest in Morneau before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline.

Anybody but the Yankees. I like Morneau.

Dead to me if he goes there.
