OXNARD, Calif. – Matt Johnson is expected to miss at least a week with a stress reaction in his left ankle suffered in Sunday’s Hall of Fame Game against Miami, according to a source.
The Cowboys play at Oakland on Friday.
Johnson was hurt in the second quarter while making a tackle and did not return to the game. X-rays at the game were negative, but he had an MRI on Monday that revealed the stress reaction. Johnson was off to a decent start in his most extensive action as a Cowboy after missing almost all of his rookie season with hamstring injuries.
Johnson has taken the second-team snaps at free safety behind Barry Church. He suffered cramps early in camp and jammed his knee in one practice but did not miss any extended time.
