Are we really going to do this? There are instances of both black and white hate crimes out there...to cherry pick this one is ridiculous.
Maybe it is an omen that this thread needs to wind down.

I think a major point that some are missing here is the implication Zimmerman did something "wrong" by following Martin.

I will tell you without hesitation if you walk thru my neighborhood, with a hoodie on, looking in peoples windows, the HOA security guards will follow and/or detain you. Its in our covenants, and its supported by the local PD.

Zimmerman was hired or elected to be on the neighborhood watch in a gated community. There's no law against following a person or inquiring about suspicious activity in a private neighborhood.

Actually...he was wrong to do that.

When 28-year-old George Zimmerman was discovered by Sanford, Florida police standing over the body of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, they accepted Zimmerman’s claim that he killed in self-defense as a neighborhood watch captain. Now, through a statement released by the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA) — the parent organization of USAonWatch-Neighborhood Watch — it has been revealed that Zimmerman was not a member of any group recognized by the organization. Zimmerman violated the central tenets of Neighborhood Watch by following Martin, confronting him and carrying a concealed weapon.

“In no program that I have ever heard of does someone patrol with a gun in their pocket,” Carmen Caldwell, the Executive Director of Citizens’ Crime Watch of Miami-Dade, told theGrio. “Every city and municipality has their own policies. Here in Miami-Dade we train people only to be the eyes and ears of their communities. Not to follow and most definitely not to carry a weapon.”

Despite this, Zimmerman admitted that he had fired a weapon on the night of the incident. In addition, the non-emergency call Zimmerman placed on February 26 before the shooting revealed he had been pursuing Martin by car before accosting the youth on foot — all direct violations of Neighborhood Watch policies.

George Zimmerman acquitted

By Jennifer Rubin

There was justice but no joy in the courtroom when the acquittal of George Zimmerman was announced. No one can say the death of a teenager, a racial witch hunt, an agonizing trial and outlandish press coverage are worth celebrating. George Zimmerman’s life is in shambles.

That said, a horrid injustice was avoided by six jurors who could see plainly what fair-minded observers saw during the trial: The prosecutors had a shabby case and it didn’t take long to figure that out.

If reasonable doubt had not been the standard, George Zimmerman might still have gotten acquitted. The prosecution’s case was that bad. At times one almost imagined that the defense had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt. There was no “depraved mind” or other basis for charging, let alone any reason to convict of second degree murder.

As for manslaughter, there are buckets of reasonable doubt that were spilled in the courtroom, much of it by the prosecution’s own witnesses. There was doubt as to what Trayvon Martin did between his last call and the confrontation. There was plenty of physical evidence, eyewitness testimony and expert testimony that Martin was on top of Zimmerman and delivering quite a beating. The prosecutors had to remove all of that and reasonable doubt as to Zimmerman’s claim of self-defense. They did not come close.

In the hall of shame goes Angela Corey, the prosecutor brought in to get an indictment. She proceeded to overcharge, grandstand and personify abuse of prosecutorial discretion. After the verdict, she delivered a rambling, self-righteous press conference in which she tried to justify her gross overreach. Good luck with that. Corey showed, once again, that the power of prosecutors is awesome and in the wrong hands can do immense harm.

The president’s public identification with the victim was uncalled for and arguably contributed to the prosecute-at-any-cost mentality. The Justice Department, which reportedly assisted pro-Trayvon Martin demonstrators, once again shows itself to be the most politicized in history.

The press coverage — snatching at half-truths, misconstruing evidence, inferring racial bias in the absence of evidence and openly cheering for a convictions — was generally deplorable. Zimmerman has a lawsuit against NBC, the settlement value of which just went sky-high. The commentators and the producers who put them on should do some soul searching, but they won’t.

The verdict was an exception to this festival of ill will and incompetence. Actually there were six exceptions — the jurors. They ignored all the hoopla, listened to the case and reached the only logical verdict. The jury system is far from perfect in delivering justice, but like democracy it is better than all the other systems.

The lesson of the case for members of the media is that criminal justice is different from punditry: the facts matter. So much of what they scribbled and blabbered about was wrong or irrelevant or both. We do not convict on memes, buzzwords, inferences, accusations or theories.

George Zimmerman Files Civil Suit Against Trayvon Martin’s Parents
Posted about 22 hours ago | 1,447 comments

<National Report> THIS JUST IN… George Zimmerman filed a civil suit today just before 5PM EST at the Seminole County, Florida, Courthouse. The suit alleges the parents of Trayvon Martin, failed to control their minor-age son on the evening of February 26, 2012, when Martin repeatedly assaulted Zimmerman, placing him in imminent fear for his life and resulting in the death of Martin.

The civil action specifies that Zimmerman acted in self defense resulting in the case being ruled a justifiable homicide by a jury trial that ended on Saturday with a verdict of not guilty.

Desperate state prosecutors charged the victim with 2nd degree murder though they had no evidence of a crime and hoping to stay off more violence and having Florida put to the torch at the criminal hands of rioters months before the start of the state’s tourist season. The complaint further specifies Zimmerman shares “zero-liability” in the death of Martin as he acted without malice and solely in self-defense. The amount of damages Zimmerman is seeking are unspecified.

Zimmerman, 29, was forced to move from his home soon after the incident when the domestic terrorist organization the New Black Panther Party publically announced the group was offering a $10,000 bounty for Zimmerman, dead or alive. Attorney General Eric Holder later claimed there was no evidence to prosecute anyone from the Black Panthers, a decision that angered most Americans. President Obama supported Holder’s decision ignoring cries of foul from outraged citizens.

Zimmerman has remained in hiding since the shooting nearly 18 months ago and continues to receive thousands of death threats daily.

Before the shooting Zimmerman was well known and highly respected in the community for his volunteer and charity work including organizing the Neighborhood Watch program for his gated Sanford, Florida, community.

The jury’s verdict not only clears Zimmerman as an innocent man but it also justifies the excellent work of the Sanford Police Department who acted appropriately by not charging Zimmerman and clearly citing there was never any evidence to do so.

Drug Addled Trayvon Martin Takes a "Hit" off a "Glass Dick" (Street for Crack Pipe)

Under mounting public pressure from the black community the police chief was let go and the department has been vilified for the last 18 months being accused of racism, corruption, incompetency and covering up the cold-blooded murder of a child.

A Brief Summary of the Jury’s Findings…

On the night of February 26, 2012, Zimmerman spotted a stranger walking through his gated community and called 911 reporting the stranger appeared intoxicated and was seen prowling around several private residences in the community. Zimmerman opted to keep an eye on the person until the police arrived. Again desperate prosecutors during the trial would side with the propaganda version of events created by the Black Panthers claiming Zimmerman was pursuing Martin with intent to murder. However the jury easily spotted this turd in the punchbowl in the state’s case.

Zimmerman lost sight of the stranger and decided to return and wait in his car for police to arrive. Instead the stranger approached Zimmerman from behind and dropped him with a single “sucker-punch” to the nose. The victim fell to the ground whereupon the 17 year-old football player, now known to be Trayvon Martin, landed on the victim’s chest, held him down and repeatedly smashed his head into the pavement resulting in several head injuries.

Zimmerman, in fear for his life thankfully had a legal concealed handgun which he drew from his belt holster. The victim fired a single shot at his brutal would-be assassin; the bullet passing through Martin’s heart killing him instantly. It was Zimmerman’s 2nd Amendment right as a citizen to own and carry a handgun that clearly saved his life that night.

Zimmerman dispatched his attacker, now known to be a violent drug addled gangster-thug with a single bullet fired from his handgun. On Saturday evening the announcement came that the jury who tried the case had reached a verdict of not guilty. For obvious reasons this case will go down in the history of American jurisprudence as a true testament to the veracity of our justice system.

Clearly written by a troll, probably a white person. There are no black males named Jacob.
I went to school with one named Jacob. His dad ran the local grocery store. He was the best defensive lineman on our football team.

I call bullshit. Lookit...we already had Schmitty duped into believing Martin stole the Skittles by a satire article, we don't need more confusion.

GOP rep on Zimmerman verdict: 'Get over it'

Catalina Camia, USA TODAY 4:12 p.m. EDT July 16, 2013

WASHINGTON -- A Republican congressman from Maryland has this message for people fixating over the verdict in George Zimmerman's trial: "Get over it."

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, was acquitted Saturday in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, a Florida teenager. Trayvon's death and Zimmerman's trial have been at the center of a national debate over racial profiling.

"We're hung up on this one case, where this one fellow was, in fact, found not guilty by a jury. That's the way the American law system works. Get over it, " Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., said Tuesday on WMAL radio.

Harris, a conservative who was first elected in 2010, also suggested there has been too much news media coverage -- especially on TV -- about the trial and its aftermath. "We missed the forest through the trees to a large extent with all the huge issues going on in the world," Harris said.

Attorney General Eric Holder has vowed to proceed with a civil rights inquiry into Trayvon's death, but it is not yet known whether President Obama's Justice Department will file charges against Zimmerman.

Harris said the Justice Department investigation is "purely political" and a sign that the Obama administration's lawyers are "doing things they shouldn't be doing and not doing things they should be doing."

"Going after a person under our system who was found not guilty ... it's incredulous," he said.

Harris' remarks about the Zimmerman trial on the Mornings on the Mall show on WMAL came after a lengthy discussion about health care and Republican opposition to the law signed by President Obama. Harris is an anesthesiologist by training. He won a divisive GOP primary in 2008 by defeating moderate Rep. Wayne Gilchrest

This should go over well. I hope he has a predominantly white district.

I have read some articles raking the prosecution over the coals for not humanizing Martin more.

I agree. It was like they thought the photos of him as a cute 12 year old would do the job for them.

WORST. PROSECUTION. EVER.

Either dog name or a special quality they had, like a stutter. But always add you never laughed at it, unlike everyone else.
He did have a cat with tourettes. Didn't know it's name, but he was the former cat of an FBI agent named McCall.

Please. Jiggy and 1big are practically white. 2233 is more black than them. A self-loathing vegetarian variant, but nonetheless.

Say that reminds me, who is the biggest cracker on this board? I want to say VaCowboy first, but Schmitty is pretty damn close.

Gotta be VA.

Smitty does run a close second, though.
