Spurs defense was big too.

Held Miami to 36 points in the 2nd half.
The key was San Antonio takes care of the ball. They're not reckless with their ball handling like OKC and Indiana. (no homo)

Miami couldn't get all the cheap baskets and extra possessions that they normally thrive on.

Most impressive stat of the night?

Spurs with 4 total turnovers.

These aren't the Pacers. They are not just going to give you many gifts.

Exactly.

I wouldn't have made my post had I seen this first.

I've said for a while now that I think the Spurs are the best team to beat Miami out of the West because of how they move the ball and the fact that they have a PG who controls the pace, not a guy like Westbrook who gets reckless and out of control.

I still say Miami in 7 but this will be one hell of a series.

I could get behind Kelvin Sampson.

I'm torn on Sampson. He has a good track record, but I wonder if it translates as an NBA head coach, especially given his recruiting violations.

As an aside, looks like the Sixers are not interested in Karl.

76ers to name new coach after NBA draft

According to two sources with knowledge of the 76ers' search for a coach, Sam Hinkie, president of basketball operations and general manager, probably won't name a coach until after the June 27 draft.

One Houston-based source said Hinkie "will probably find a coach after the draft." The source also said that Hinkie believes that the coach "is secondary in the process because [Hinkie] will have an idea of what type of players" the Sixers will need to select.

The Sixers have the 11th pick in the draft.

The source also said Hinkie would probably not be interested in hiring recently fired Denver Nuggets coach George Karl. Karl, 62, one source said, is a great coach, but Hinkie "would probably be more interested in a younger coach" who will grow with a relatively young team.

Meanwhile, another source with knowledge of the situation confirmed a report earlier Friday that Hinkie might consider Miami assistant coach David Fizdale for the vacancy.

"I can only say that he seems like the type of guy that Sam would be interested in," a source said. Fizdale also serves as the Heat's director of player development.

Right...still waiting for them to be on top of their game. Lebron was not his dominant self tonight, if Chalmers plays like that and Allen and Miller keep hitting threes off the bench...well it could get crazy. The Spurs looked old tonight.

The game was nip and tuck until Miami went on a crazy run to end the 3rd that extended into the 4th, it's not like the Spurs came out and got their asses whipped from start to finish.

I know I'm kinda of stating the obvious here, but game 3 is crucial, especially for San Antonio.

I know Miami won game 3 at Dallas back 2011 and Dallas still won the series by reeling off 3 straight, but I don't think San Antonio can do the same. Miami still isn't the best team under pressure. The respond with their backs to the wall, but only in spurts. If San Antonio can win game 3, they can keep the pressure on Miami's role players to perform, and those role players have been very inconsistent in these playoffs.

If San Antonio keeps the pressure on with a game 3 victory, then I think they'll go back to Miami up 3-2. But if Miami wins game 3? I see them closing out the series in game 6 at Miami.

If the Heat role players continue to play as they did last night, then the Spurs are pretty much just waiting for the inevitable finals loss.

Miami just cut the lead a bit, but coming back from 15 down going into the 4th against the Spurs won't be easy.

Who needs this game more? San Antonio or Miami? I'm gonna say San Antonio.

Gary Neal is going nuts.

He just put them up 21 in the 4th after hitting back to back 3's.

This one is over.

The problem with blowing out the (c)Heat like this is that they are gonna come back with a chip on their shoulder.

And by they I mean Lebron.

Do you guys agree with this assessment?

The Heat are not a great team nor do they play great basketball, they just have great games and great moments. Just like the other night when they beat down the Spurs, they look crazy good when everything clicks. But they have too many moments in games where they go into a lull, and they are almost guaranteed to have a poor game or two in every series.

Losing game 1's for this team comes as no surprise anymore.

For as great as the collection of talent is, they don't really dominate. And even if you knew you'd get their very best, would you honestly pick them to beat any of MJ's Bulls, Magic's Lakers, Kobe and Shaq's Lakers, Larry's Celtics? How about the 2000's Spurs in their prime?

I just don't think they are sound enough all around or consistent enough to be considered a truly "great" team.

There's some truth to that Ace.

SA took better care of the ball tonight. They slowed down the pace and didn't let Miami get easy points.

LeBron couldn't find his stroke, and Splitter/ Duncan challenged him at the rim all night. Great help D there.
