People are terminated every day because of airing there opinions in public on matters that may reflect badly on their employers. There have been a few examples very recently such as a teacher here in McKinney when she supported a police officers actions. Employers have a right to curtail public relations matters that are adverse (or presumed adverse) about their employers business or taking a public position on controversial matters. In the Bryant matter he is attempting to manipulate the employer by emanating bad PR connotations of his employer. It is not professional.
As I mentioned that speaks to an imbalance of leverage, not a universal right of employers. If teachers were irreplaceable they could get away with a lot more.

It's a lot easier to be professional when you're a billion dollar multimedia juggernaut with infinite channels to disseminate information from. What you're saying is that the Cowboys can talk about Dez Bryant but Dez Bryant can't talk about Dez Bryant. Bullshit.

"Professionalism" in this context is an expectation for people to keep their head down and play ball. By that measure every union and every employee who protested their treatment is unprofessional.

Dez's best leverage is in public outcry. Dallas's is in carefully worded press releases. Neither deserve to claim a moral high ground. They're both operating within the rules of negotiation. Expecting Dez to negotiate in a way that benefits the Cowboys is silly.

I'd say any statements about having Dez play under the franchise tag are very similar threats. You act as this is some sort of a new thing. Team's use the franchise tag as leverage to try and push down the salary of the player on a long term deal. The player uses a threat of a hold out to avoid playing under said franchise tag. This isn't a new game. The Cowboys have publicly said they basically don't believe Dez will hold out, so Dez has basically come out publicly and said he will. You're just a pawn in their little game. I don't see anything wrong with what either side is doing. I just want them to get the deal done.
Jerry: Hey, we'll pay you almost 13 mil this year to play for us this year.

Dez: Stop threatening me!

More like, hey Dez, we're going to prevent you from becoming a free agent and we will put you on a one year contract. There is some scary thought to that for a player who could get hurt and have the rest of his career screwed.

Not really. He is airing his intentions and that should be directed to the club. It's not public knowledge until he airs it.
Uhh, his agent already came out 3 weeks ago saying he wasn't going to be at game 1, so yeah, it is public knowledge.

He's not signing anything but his franchise deal this year. Yay for Giants fans.

Maybe next year either AJ Green or Julio Jones might actually sign new deals to set an acceptable standard, but somehow I doubt it.

The Hell with WR's who hold the entire team hostage with their salaries. Suh should have been a Lion for life, but Megatron made that impossible. Now Megatron is good, but he brings a fraction of the impact of a guy like Suh.

I wonder where the agent got that from.
Regardless, it nullifies your point that Dez himself went public with information that wasn't public knowledge. Which was the point of the debate.

Really? Even though his agent is speaking on his behalf?

Of course he wants that.

The point is not what he wants though, it's what he and the team will agree to. He may want Megatron money, and the club may want to pay him Mike Wallace money, but both might settle for something in between.

Really not the point of my post... it's more about the insane idea that he should just be happy with $13 mil for one year. Everyone knows he's worth more than that and would command more than that on the open market.

The open market for Bryant isn't until next season at the earliest. He is only hurting himself with his current stance and his agent is in line to loose as well if Bryant carries through with his threats.

I don't see Dez doing anything wrong.

He hasn't said anything negative about the Cowboys, but has kept his comments contained to his situation. He's playing hardball as much as the Jones' are.

As for griping about $12 million, get what you can get, especially if your peers (ie Calvin Johnson) got it. More American than apple pie. For Dez, a one-year contract doesn't cut it. He could go Michael Irvin-laying-on-the-turf on us in one hit.

I disagree. Cowboys will also hurt if Bryant carries through with his threats.

Secondly, as long as Bryant stays in shape, Bryant would likely get a multi-year, fat guaranteed contract from another team in 2016 even if he were to sit out 2015.

Not sure about the rules about when Bryant can sign a long-term contract, but it sure forced Jerruh's hand when the Cowboys went 0-2 w/o Emmitt. Also, Jerruh paid a king's ransom for Galloway once Irvin was out.

Bryant doesn't have the leverage now that he will have next season (potentially) He will suffer more than the team if he follows up with his threat and in addition he will give the organization a reason to begin to look for a replacement. Every move he makes toward his threats will come out of his pocket.
