While I agree Jordan should have picked up the phone, how long does it take to figure out Jordan does not want to play for you anymore.

After the 3rd text or call Cuban should have gotten the message and moved on, what could he have possibly said to change his mind.
More info is coming out, and I read Cuban pretty much called his front office guys around 8:30 or so and told them it was over.

I just think the media sensationalized it to make it seem like they parked outside of his house till 11:59 or whatever.

Chris Broussard's report that Cuban was calling people for his address is also BS, but it's Broussard so it's not a surprise.

Or they can leave it as is and realize this was an anomaly.

It's widely known that teams have backchannel contacts leading up to free agency anyway.
It's happened several times in the past. This is nothing new.

But this is the most publicity that a player has received for backing out of a "deal".

That's why I think the owners will vote to change the rules. And why wouldn't they. It would be an extra tool of control over the players. Of course the NBAPA would also have to agree with it.

It is just dirty to me. Not that the Mavs were title contenders this year, but I am sure they were looking at corresponding moves thinking that Jordan was in the fold. This retards the season for them.

yep. It's very dirty. Shows very poor character. And really hurts the Mavs.

I don't really get it. Reminds me of highschool recruiting where you get verbal commitments from players that basically don't mean shit. I guess the idea is that it allows you to kind of look around before making a final decision and not being forced to make one the second free agency hits. Still it just seems silly to me since you can't really count on any of the commitments.

Yep. He completely f'd their off-season strategy.

Once they reached a verbal agreement last week, he pretty much handcuffed the Mavs ability to target other marquee free agents. Other big men who were on the market thought Jordan was headed to Dallas so they didn't even give Dallas a thought. And the Mavs assumed that Jordan would eat up a large chunk of their cap space so they didn't target any other high dollar FAs.

David Aldridge ✔@daldridgetnt
With DeAndre Jordan going back to the Clippers, Wes Matthews's deal with Dallas goes from 4/$57M to a max deal: 4 years, $70M, per source.

:lol

Props to Matthews for sensing the wounded animal and getting more out of it. Probably threatened to look elsewhere as well.

If the Mavs could've found a PG somewhere they could've really had something with Matthews/Parsons/Dirk/Jordan at the 2/3/4/5.

Hey, we're on the verge of acquiring Deron Williams for about 70 million dollars cheaper than it would have cost us back in 2012.

We knew what we were doing all along.

Now Deron Williams is asking for a release from the Nets so he can go to Dallas. It's like Cuban said eff it, I'm just gonna spend all this money. Who cares if we win.

I seriously doubt that it costs much to get Williams.

If it does, then Cuban has lost his mind.

I bet we overpay... If it's anything more than the mid level exception, then it's probably an overpay. He's probably not a top haf of the league PG anymore.

I don't mind Jordan going back to the Clippers but it's a complete bitch move to not be man enough to talk to Cuban over the phone. It's like he's such a fragile little bitch that he's afraid of being swayed back just by talking to the man over the phone, it's pathetic honestly.

I mean let's be real here what difference does a call to Cuban make, does that do anything to lessen the blow.:lol

And really that's the job of his agent to notify Cuban, I realize it's "socially" the right thing to do but at the end of the day he really does not owe Cuban diddly.

And the more this goes on Dallas looks more like a whiny bitch.

And now Parson's going into complete bitch mode.:lol

Chandler Parsons slams DeAndre Jordan, says center was ‘scared’ to be a franchise player

By Des Bieler July 9 at 11:10 PM

In the aftermath of DeAndre Jordan’s decision to renege on a verbal commitment to join the Mavericks and stay with the Clippers — which unfolded in about as bizarre a manner as possible — it’s safe to say that plenty of folks in Dallas are mad. Heaven knows, Mavs owner Mark Cuban is angry about the whole thing.

But perhaps no one is as upset at Jordan’s last-minute change of heart as Chandler Parsons. The Mavericks small forward and (possibly former) friend of Jordan’s spent considerable time recruiting the center, and he made it clear he feels betrayed.

In extensive comments Thursday to ESPN, Parsons did not shrink from calling Jordan “scared” of “being a franchise player.” He described the center’s behavior as “unethical and disrespectful,” and said that Jordan decided to stay “complacent in L.A.”

Here is a sampling of what Parsons had to say about Jordan to ESPN’s Tim McMahon:

“I’m shocked, very disappointed, frustrated, disrespected.”

“I had the same thoughts last year when I had to go ahead and sign with Dallas and have a chance to leave Houston, but never once in my life would I consider turning on an entire organization and city and going back and backtracking.”

“He’s complacent in L.A., and I think that was a safer bet than for him to make a big decision and branch off and go do his own thing.”

“He put our entire franchise and our team in a really, really tough spot.”

“Be a professional. Pick up the phone. If you’re not going to meet with [Cuban], pick up the phone. … But do not ignore the guy. Do not make him sit there and sweat it out. That’s just very unprofessional. I can’t get over that part.”

“It’s not our fault. We did everything that we could. We had a verbal commitment from a grown-ass man.”

“He wasn’t ready for being a franchise player. He was scared. He was scared to take the next step in his career.”
“I’ll still be friends with him, but I can’t get over the way that he’s put our entire franchise in jeopardy.”
It’s good to know that Parsons feels that he’ll “still be friends” with Jordan, because, to judge from those comments, it would be easy to draw a different conclusion. But that is undoubtedly why McMahon found Parsons in such an upset state of mind — the Mavericks forward wasn’t just looking forward to getting an all-star center on his team, he was excited about playing next to a pal.

It will be very interesting to see what sort of reception Jordan gets the next time he plays in Dallas. Boos will, of course, rain down from the thousands in attendance, but the center, notorious for his poor free-throw shooting, could also see some extra fouls come his way, and hard ones at that.
=================================================================

This from the guy who sucked for most of last year after leaving to do his own thing.

http://deadspin.com/cuban-i-went-to-deandre-jordans-house-but-he-said-he-1717013292?utm_source=taboola

Dear Mavs fans,

After all the nonsense coming from an ESPN employee on twitter, I thought I would provide the events of the day on Tuesday.

Through all of Monday [DeAndre and I] were texting back and forth discussing players available, the amount of cap room we had left. Who our staff liked. Who he liked. How excited he was.

Then on Tuesday the communications basically stopped and we started hearing rumblings from multiple people that something was up.

So I flew down to Houston and got a room at the Galleria, which is just a few minutes from his house. I had my driver take me to his house. It’s inside a small gated community but the gate was wide open so we drove in and I literally walked up to his door. There was no one home. So I texted him saying that I was there, “I know something is up. Let’s talk.” He texted me that he was on a date.

I told him to have fun. I wasn’t in a rush, that I was happy to come by there and say hi or if he wanted to make the date fun, take them to Dallas for a night out.
:laff

He didn’t respond.

Wrong and wrong.

First of all, how do you even ask what difference does it make? That's the whole point - that Jordan handled this like a complete bitch and the lack of professionalism is pathetic. Pick up the phone and say you're changing your mind....that's it.

I don't know why you're having such a hard time understanding this.

And answer me this, smart guy. How is his agent supposed to notify Cuban when he wouldn't even speak to him either? Did you not actually read all the details, or just the ones that you found interesting?

I get that you hate the Mavs and all and can't see past that, but it's a bitch move plain and simple and it was handled very poorly by Jordan.....period.
