Ex Machina was a nice little surprise. Didn't expect much but a good story and good effects. Plus Oscar Isaac is good in everything and he's in the new Star Wars, so it gives me hope for that.

I had been wanting to see that, just forgot until you reminded me. Cool, thanks.

I saw the trailer for that a while back and am interesting in seeing it. Might have to do that over the weekend.

Inside Out was another Pixar home run. One of the best movies they have made. If you have a young daughter, take her...she will love it.

So your next Spiderman is Tom Holland...and the director is Jon Watts.

Who?

Although the way Marvel craps out movies it seems like they have a pretty set formula for their franchises.

I read something on this once. The basic premise was that all American actors have that manboyish quality.
I heard an interview with a British actor once (Sean Bean maybe) and he was asked about it. He said its easy for Brits to imitate the accent cause they watch so much American TV and movies, they grow up doing it already.

I think it has more to do with them being willing to work for less than established american actors.

Actually the prevailing wisdom seems to be younger British actors are better trained.

Just looking at British shows with young actors like Skins, Misfits and The Inbetweeners as opposed to the dreck coming from Disney, Nickelodeon and MTV and it's fairly obvious.

This also sheds some light on the matter.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/movies/2013/02/19/british-actors-us-hollywood/1918973/

In a BBC radio program broadcast late last year, the British director Stephen Frears (Dangerous Liaisons, High Fidelity) said, "There is a kind of crisis in American acting. It is very noticeable." He added, "If I were being tedious I would say it's the lack of a theater. When you work with someone like Annette Bening or Glenn Close, they are highly trained. It's like working with Judi Dench. They are the real thing. But a lot of American cinema doesn't have that background."

Variety's Gray said, "Britain has a theater tradition that goes back centuries. There is recognition that if you want to be an actor, you have to pay your dues, which often involves long runs in the theater and/or repertory work. There are many American actors who also share this work ethic. But there are a lot of athletes and reality-show contestants and singers and models who think, 'I'll bet acting is fun,' and unfortunately, some people will hire them. I don't get the sense that U.K. acting allows as many dilettantes."

Damn right. I thought they hit the feels button big time in Up, but they did it even better here. More like an innocence lost kind of thing, made you think a lot about being a kid and how much stuff changed as you aged.

Looks like this Japanese trailer boils down the whole Ant Man movie.

I went to see 'Dope' today. I thought it was a fun movie that delivered a great message. It's a movie that will easily become a cult classic, IMO.

Minions looks terrible. I thought the Despicable Me movies were not great either.
