I have kind of wanted an upgrade from Murray all along, that's why I was interested in the Peterson stuff.

Anybody judging Murray unbiasedly saw a tangible drop off in his running as the season wore on, he left a lot of
Yards on the field, I think he would have still been a valuable back moving forward I can easily see a rapid decline in 2 years.

I am still holding out hope on Peterson this might open up a trade possibility with a restructuring from Peterson.
I don't disagree with this. Murray is a 1200 yard back who witnessed a 600 yard inflation in his number due to the dominance of the OL.

I'm expecting quite a shot in the arm. Maybe a third and fourth even.
I think a third for Murray would be totally reasonable. He was the NFL's leading rusher and signed a big ass contract. Parnell is probably a 4th/5th round type.

I don't know if we can get one for Melton or not. I guess technically we didn't cut him, we just chose not to pick up his option. Not really sure how the system views that.

@fishsports: What #Cowboys bosses tell me: it's not Jerry's 'stepping back'; its lieutenants Stephen, Will & RedBall 'stepping up'

We didn't cut Murray or Parnell either.

And, Jerry letting them step up is the very definition of him stepping back.

A rookie isn't going to have warts? I get what you're saying but I'm talking about something like a 1 year/$1M deal for someone like Ridley who will take a dirt cheap short-term deal to try and reestablish his value for free agency in 2016. Good rookie RBs can usually step in and play well but considering the Cowboys should not/do not trust Randle and clearly see Ryan Williams as nothing more than an emergency call-up, they could use an experienced vet to split carries and add quality depth. Ridley went for >1200 yards and 12 TDs a couple years ago. He has talent and could do well behind this OL. Why not bring him in if he can be signed for minimal money?
I get what you say about a vet presence. But if Gordon or Gurley are there at 27 I think you can roll with them with Randle, Williams & Dunbar in a RB by committee approach and let the best man win the most carries.

I'm actually cool with this. If a team is going to greatly overpay for a player I actually want it to be a division rival. I can't wait for Murray to look broken down and get cut a year or two from now and see the Eagles swallow the big cap hit.
Fair point and I can see that happening. As good a season as he had last year, fumbles notwithstanding, it was the exception rather than the rule for him. He may even have another season like it but I don't see him being an $8M a year RB for five years. I just hate the Fing Eagles.

Thankfully this is a good draft for RBs and if we exercise due diligence, we should be able to plug someone in that will be more than adequate.

That would have been funnier if it hadn't been terribly typed.

That question will likely be answered next season.

I am proud...they have a plan and I think we are not done with just Collins. More players probably get cut and we'll have the flexibility to make some late additions. Lawrence is really a key and if we can resign McClain our starting LBs can be scary. Big ticket FAs rarely have worked for us and other teams as well.

There is work to do at RB, but we are not going in with what we have and I trust their player evaluation more than ever.
