Clay did I say anything about stopping? Are you just trying to bait?
How else are we going to reduce Murray's carries by changing the overall game plan. Sounds to me like returning to a pass-first offense and going .500 until Romo gets hurt then losing out.

We need multiple quality running backs, however we can get them.

How many though? If we bring back Murray I am good with what we have. The 4 we have now have proven they can be more than good enough. Now if we lose Murray then we can look at multiple additions, but if we replace Murray with Peterson then I would be fine with him, Randle, Dunbar, and Williams.

Keep the same amount of plays just reallocate some of the running plays to the backups. It isn't hard.

I think Ben Tate is a guy who would excel here...Clev was a bad fit for him.

Agree, he did very well at Houston in the Kubiak/Shanahan pure zone system. Pollack and he might even have been together there for a year, don't remember.

I just think we got lucky in 2014 and there's no way Murray can repeat that performance. He needs fewer carries and we can't afford a major dropoff in talent when Murray isn't carrying the football.

I believe Randle and Dunbar are a major dropoff, unfortunately, and I think the coaches agreed enough to not give them many carries outside of the blowout Washington win.

I think you might be underrating Williams potential though. We all agreed that Williams looked far better than Randle carrying the ball in preseason and I could really see him handling 150 carries behind Murray or AP or whomever was our #1 option or split carries with a draft pick or a second tier guy like Ray Rice or Ben Tate. Randle can handle another 50 carries and be the ST guy. We can either cut Dunbar or let him have a shot replacing Harris as the return guy.

I wouldn't mind that, and in fact, I actually wanted to bring him here this past offseason.

I'd take him over an Ingram or Moreno, that's for sure.

The thing about Ingram is that he very rarely busts a big run. Something like a 30 yarder is his career long. Gore is not a HR hitter anymore, but he still rips off a few a year.
Speaking of which, it is strange that Murray didn't break many long runs this year.

While he's not a burner, he certainly has more than enough acceleration and top end speed to go the distance and he's broken many long runs in his short career. That's why I can't figure out why in the year where he had by far the best blocking as a Cowboy that the long runs were in short supply.

The fumbles per season are not that far off.
True, but AP is the Dez Bryant of his position and you can accept the fumbles to a degree for a guy like that.

With Murray, it wasn't just the amount of times he fumbled but also when he fumbled. Each and every fumble he lost this season was big.

Go back and look and you'll find that every single fumble he lost took points off the board because they all occurred in scoring position.

The two that didn't? One was returned for a TD which helped to put us in a big hole vs the 49ers, and the other was the one vs GB in the playoffs....and we all know how big that fumble was.

What if Petersen doesn't get reinsrated or only gets partially reinstated? Do you want to wait to find out? The trial date hasn't been determined yet even though it has been requested to not be past April 15. I guess you could line up a strategy for the draft as a contingency but if Jones wants Murray and has until June to find out. The draft strategy to replace him will be gone already. At this time i don't see how Dallas can wait that long to make a determination about Murray.

I think they will have a pretty good idea if Murray is coming back fairly quickly. The draft is also not until 30 Apr, so there is plenty of time for both Murray and Peterson's situations to be resolved.

If Murray could increase his ypc by 1.5 yards, he'd be way under 375 carries.

So they can't wait and see?

It's silly to think just anyone can replace Murray. And it's silly to think no one can.
