As an aside, Michael Moore shows yet again he is a fucking moron.
Agreed. Moronic statement.

I guess that everyone that participates in war is a coward. I mean, unless a battle devolves into hand to hand combat with bayonets and shit, who exactly is face to face with the enemy they kill in modern times? Not many. I'm guessing just the elite units that go on small raids and/or missions.

Went to see Selma today. Very good movie.

It opens your eyes up to some of the other key members of the civil rights movement other than MLK and Abernathy. After I got home I spent a good hour reading through Wikipedia and other articles to get smart on some of the less celebrated civil rights heroes.

I thought they did a great job showing the strategic approach of SCLC during the movement. It was like a real life game of chess. I also enjoyed the back and forth between King and LBJ.

The events from this movie happened approximately 50 years ago. In the grand scheme of things that wasn't that long ago. It still amazes me that just 50 years ago it was considered okay to treat people like that.

Blow up a church filled with 20-something black kids preparing for Sunday school......we'll just charge you with illegal possession of dynamite, fine you $100, and give you six months in jail.

Hell, that was one of the "harsher" penalties. In most cases people got off Scott free.
That is the conversation that I had with my wife after we saw it. Can you imagine that ONLY 50 years ago this stuff was going on? Wow. I cannot comprehend how someone could justify treating their fellow man with such hate. It wasn't just a sprinkling of idiots here and there either. It was entire towns and political systems. I just don't understand.

Just saw a good movie on Amazon Prime called "The Unfinished Life". Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez.

I quite enjoyed The Interview...got a Stripes vibe from it. It was better than it had any business being.

I had to watch it twice, but it was OK. Not as good as some of the other movies those two have put out though.

I thought Franco was annoying, but Park was money. He's great on Veep too, so I'm going to give his new show a chance.

Never been a big Jennifer Lawrence guy, but I have to say after watching Silver Linings Playbook that things changed. I am a sucker for yoga pants.

"Boyhood" is getting pretty over the top positive reviews. It's a neat concept and it's enjoyable, but it's not a total "Wow!" or anything. Just a well done coming of age story with a unique approach in filming scenes over a period of 12 years. If you like Linklater you'll like it.

Did you know that the real Bernie Tiede was released from prison after 17 years under the conditions that he live with Linklater, who had been pushing for his release? Apparently he lives in a garage apartment at Linklater's and works as a paralegal somewhere here in Austin.
Finally watched it, E_D. I really thought it was great all around. I put it at the top of Linklater's films, up there with Dazed and Confused and Bernie, imo.

Watched Million Ways to Die in the West and Against the Sun yesterday. MWTDITW was pretty good. It had some really funny lines in it. Overall, it was kinda boring, but entertaining enough, I guess. Against the Sun was actually much better than I thought it was going to be. A movie being based on true story always makes it a little better than if it is just off a writer's pen.

It's just Michael Moore being himself. He's an ultra left wing,Anti-gun, anti-America socialist. If it comes out of his mouth, it isn't worth paying any attention to. And the F'n moron Seth Rogan is right there with him in my book now.

Boyhood.

I could appreciate a "coming of age" tale if something, oh, I dunno, something actually happened.

I agree. It was interesting because of the long process it took to make, but the story itself wasnt compelling or original. The kid ended up with a drink, abusive step-dad, but they moved on from that pretty quickly.

I get what you are saying, but that is one of the reasons I liked it. Most childhoods don't have some big narrative arc. Stuff just sorta happens and one day you are an adult.
