A lot of people seem not to know how progressions work. They go in order. The QB does not see the whole field from above. If his first read is Dez and he's one on one and pulls the trigger, he's not going to get a chance to go to his second and third reads. Bear in mind also that he had already been sacked 4 times and a sack there ends the game.
If Dez is running a deep route on 4th and 2 then why is he Romo's first read?

Presnap read...zero blitz, take the expected open match up...by far the better match up
Expected open match up? What does that mean? All the receivers had a one on one match up...so in that instance you take the best match up...which is Dez vs any DB the Packers could throw at him. It worked too.

I've explained it twice already. Romo knows Beasley is running a 3 yard slant, he knows he's single covered with a safety who's also playing 8 yards off the line. He knows Beasley will be open immediately.

I'm pretty sure the route is also determined by type of single coverage. Inside technique and break it out, press coverage and it's deep, slant for a zone, 10-yard cushion and it's...

Better question is who doesn't know Beasley is going to be open?

This is a dumb discussion.

Romo made the right call. Not his fault the refs fucked us.

I wouldn't say the refs. I would say whomever came up with this retarded rule did. The choice is very much debatable, though.

Read order is probably determined by coverage. If they left Bryant literally without a defender, then he's your first option no matter what route he's running. You don't necessarily know the coverage when you send in a play.
Under normal circumstances, sure.

The was 4th and 2 with the game possibly on the line.

Your first read should be a short route to move the chains.

Situational football.

He threw it up to his All Pro WR who had 1 on 1 coverage with the game on the line.

I'm not gonna fault him for that.

And that's fine. Doesn't necessarily mean that's the right choice in that situation.

Take some of the justification out of that sentence and you get, "He threw it up...with the game on the line."

Probably not the wisest decision of his career.

People defending this are saying, Hey you have Dez one on one.

But it took a miraculous catch to even make it work. He was well covered.

You take the safe play with the game on the line.

That, or just run it and stick to what got you there.

The line was too crowded. The chance of success was smaller.

It's really not a difficult concept to grasp. WR open, throw him the ball, go 40 more yards to win the game in 2 minutes.

Neither does throwing to Beasley. Say you throw it to Beasley and he drops it...people would be whining about not taking advantage of Dez in a one on one.

Nobody would be whining about throwing to Beasley for dropping a ball if he was wide open and would have had the first down. People would just simply be pissed at Beasley for ending our season.
