So you're saying that preamp, he should have known Beasley would be wide open? Fair enough.

If I'm the QB, I still try to get the ball into the hands of my superstars.

His preamp read also told him Dez would be single covered which is essentially the same as being wide open.

Lemme see... Dez or Beasley?

The decision is easy for me.
Dez covered vs anyone open is not an easy choice. With the season on the line, take the sure thing and move the chains.

Prior to yesterday, playoff teams were 68-0 when their QB posted a 125.0+ QB rating.

Romo and Rodgers both accomplished this feat, making the Cowboys the "1" with the record now 69-1.

He always overlooks the underneath guy for the one streaking down the field. It's always been a flaw of his.

With that said, it's another reminder of how bad this coaching staff is at calling plays with so many deep routes on 3rd and 4th and short. It's a low percentage play and yet we call it all the time. If you don't have Bryant and Williams both running streaks, then Romo isn't tempted to throw it to them.

Lack of creativity, maybe?
I see only one deep route on that play. Is it your position that for a pass play to be short, you can't send any routes downfield? That congests the defense.

I've questioned why we don't shorten up our passing game at times but this play is not an example of it. This is Romo decision making only.

No, you stop.

You can stick your head in the sand and ignore the fact that Bailey has not been great in the past month+, but it's reality. Hell, HE JUST MISSED A 45 YARDER THAT WAS CALLED BACK FOR A FALSE START ONLY SECONDS BEFORE.

Add on that the field is grass and the stadium is outdoors and it just doesn't make sense to go for the field goal at 50 yards with that much time left. We practically handed them 3 points.

I'd have preferred punting, but even going for it would have been better.
Fwiw they said on Talkin Cowboys today that on the first "miss" Bailey knew the play was blown dead and didn't give it the same effort as if the play had gone through. Said they practice that all the time, when kicks are blown dead presnap, but you're in your routine, you have to finish out your motion to keep rhythm but direction doesn't matter at that point.

Why is that his first read on 4th and 2 with the season on the line? That's nuts.

A lot of people seem not to know how progressions work. They go in order. The QB does not see the whole field from above. If his first read is Dez and he's one on one and pulls the trigger, he's not going to get a chance to go to his second and third reads. Bear in mind also that he had already been sacked 4 times and a sack there ends the game.

That's a coaching decision, like going empty backfield and begging the Packers to sack Romo, over and over, and not running in crucial short yardage situations.

Read order is probably determined by coverage. If they left Bryant literally without a defender, then he's your first option no matter what route he's running. You don't necessarily know the coverage when you send in a play.

Progressions my ass. Read the defense presnap and know what's coming. Then alter your progressions.
