If I knew there would be a wide net cast to replace Marinelli, I wouldn't care. I am not a big fan of the Tampa system and I hate the soft nature of it that almost demands that you get four stud linemen because blitzing is an afterthought.

But if it means Eberflus, which I am certain we will do, I would prefer Marinelli returning since he can get blood out of a turnip at times.
Eberflus is the easy hire. Much like promoting Garrett instead of looking for a real HC...same with Campo 15 years ago.

I'd love to see a hard-nosed 4-3 coach come in. Shit I'd even welcome Haslett if he wasn't such a 3-4 monkey.

If the new Atlanta coach isn't/doesn't want Mike Nolan, I'd love to see him in Dallas.

Regardless of who the coordinator is Dallas needs to upgrade every level of the defense. At least two draft choices and two free agents.

I would prefer someone who isn't so married to a particular scheme/variant that it makes it impossible to get the right mix.

Part of the downside of a guy like Marinelli is his scheme. It is so contingent on getting fits for the system and that automatically eliminates the options for talent that you can look at to play.

A strong multiple scheme, 4-3 or 3-4 is what I would prefer. That might be what Eberflus does, but I have no idea.

I do know we need a new DB coach and Eberflus is buddies with Henderson.

No to Haslet. But I'd take Nolan, Fox ( if he doesn't land a HC job), Schwartz (even though he's a douche), etc. Can't imagine not even talking to some of these and just going with Eberfluster

Fox does have a history with Garrett when both were with the Giants. If he doesn't land a HC gig, he has made it clear he's not ready to retire.

He was relatively underpaid as a HC (around $5M a year), so I could see him taking a cushy job as an overpaid assistant coach provided Jones is willing to pay up.

All in all, I think he lands somewhere as a head coach. This is a very diluted pool to choose from and while he might be the second coming of Marty Schottenheimer, he is a solid head coach that can win games.

Another guy to keep an eye on is Richard Smith who was on Fox's staff. Maybe not for DC, but he and Garrett were on Saban's staff in Miami together.

Stephen Jones 'Fully Expects' Marinelli to Return

Ian McCue - 8 hours ago
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones refuted a recent report from Pro Football Talk that defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli leaving the Cowboys for the Buccaneers is essentially a done deal.

"We fully expect him to come back," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, via Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News. "It would certainly be disappointing if [he] didn't."

Marinelli has long-time ties to Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith, who just completed his first season there.

Jones also said no one will be allowed to interview with another staff for the next three days unless it's for a head coaching gig. That gives the team a brief period to try to re-sign key members of the staff like Marinelli and offensive play-caller Scott Linehan.

Dallas' front office has also wasted no time trying to secure head coach Jason Garrett for the future. Per Jon Machota of The Morning News, Jones said the strategizing for a new deal began on Sunday night — that's right, hours after the season-ending loss to the Packers — and has been continued into Monday.

Speaking on the same radio station Monday morning, Garrett made it clear we wants to keep his office at Valley Ranch.

"This is a great organization," Garrett said, according to ESPN.com's Todd Archer. "I think we really built a football team that we can be proud of, and there are some really good things ahead for this team."

When fat Rob left, I seem to remember some people here touting Eberflus, saying he'd be a good hire.

Dennis Thurman is a guy I'd love to get for our next DC, though he might just follow Foot Fetish to Buffalo as the DB coach.

The Browns are after both Callahan and Linehan per Schefter. I think they get Callahan no problem.

Did you two sleep together before the game? You don't know any more about Marinelli's motivation than I do.
Maybe DeMarco Murray fumbled because he had money on the Packers. Hey, you don't know. It might be the case.

People want a name they trust given Jones' track record of promoting.

But I don't know if Eberflus would be bad as a DC or not.

If we come out of this with both Linehan and Marinelli still on the staff I will consider it a win.
