I just watched the play about 10 times on Youtube. 2 things:

1. Beasley was open and Romo should have known presnap he was going to be. He was being covered by a Safety 8 yards off the line and he ran a simple 3 yard slant.

2. Romo saw Dez one on one presnap and decided then that's where he was going. 99% of the time I have absolutely no issue with this as it's a potential game breaking play as this one should have been. My only real issue is taking that chance in that situation. Still, it should have been a conversion for us. F you, NFL.

I would agree with this. Whereas, the Dez no-catch hurt because it was so late in the game, The Murray fumble was an almost sure TD and would have given us huge momentum.

So, maybe my gripe is with the coaches and the playcall rather than Romo.
That's my stance, I think Romo ran the play as called and Dez is the 1st read and singled he should do what he's been coached and go there, but having the slow developing route as the 1st read on a 4th&2 call is stupid. Keep the drive alive.

Really?

If the refs don't F off that call and the play stands, you all are in here lauding Romo for having the guts to make the big play. But because the Refs make a bad call (and you don't wanna sound like a bunch of whiners), you want to find something else to bitch about.
Wrong. When Dez made the catch I said he just bailed us out. It was as dumb a decision then as it is now.

So you're seriously saying we shouldn't have attempted a FG there? With our kicker? Stop. They said he was nailing from 50, 52, 54 prame. So our best weapon, lets not use him in a playoff game because he missed a few kicks late?

Should we have punted or gone for it?
No, you stop.

You can stick your head in the sand and ignore the fact that Bailey has not been great in the past month+, but it's reality. Hell, HE JUST MISSED A 45 YARDER THAT WAS CALLED BACK FOR A FALSE START ONLY SECONDS BEFORE.

Add on that the field is grass and the stadium is outdoors and it just doesn't make sense to go for the field goal at 50 yards with that much time left. We practically handed them 3 points.

I'd have preferred punting, but even going for it would have been better.

And maybe if we didn't throw deep on 3rd and 1 from an obvious shotgun passing formation we would've picked up the first down and been able to run the clock down so even if we missed the FG the half would've ended w/o GB getting the ball back.
But for some reason we love not only passing on 3rd or 4th down and short, but we love passing deep on those downs. Absolutely mind numbing.

Sure, but that is not what was being discussed.

It is now. Just follow the natural progression of events. That 3rd and 1 play call is what caused us to have to attempt the FG with that much time remaining in the first place.

As an aside, does anyone here know why Ken Bishop #66 was playing? I had no clue who that fat guy was but man he was terrible.

Melton was out and then Terrell McClain got hurt last week so they had to call Bishop up from the practice squad.

OK...so they run it and don't get it...are in the same spot. I would go for it or punt it.

One other thing about that picture...if you look a defender is bearing down on Romo as he is about to release the ball. So if he goes through his progressions and tries to find Beasley, he gets sacked.

I didn't have a problem with the FG the first time. But once we got backed up five more yards it would've been wiser to punt.

Yes, but my issue is about presnap reads. He knows the route Beasley will run, he knows it's an allout blitz with man coverage and he knows how far off the line Beasley's man is. That's basic stuff but he didn't want to pay attention to it. He see's Dez, he throws to Dez. Period.

So you're saying that preamp, he should have known Beasley would be wide open? Fair enough.

If I'm the QB, I still try to get the ball into the hands of my superstars.

His preamp read also told him Dez would be single covered which is essentially the same as being wide open.

Lemme see... Dez or Beasley?

The decision is easy for me.

I don't buy that. It was like a practice kick then. 45 or 50 it doesn't matter. He's the most accurate kicker in history for a reason. The weather, field, etc didn't hurt Crosby on his FG. They fucked up 3rd and 1 though. What the hell. Run the damn ball every 3rd and 1 in 2015 please.

I just hope it doesn't fuck up Bailey's psyche moving forward.
