The department here was smart and did a good job in releasing information quickly including video of the shooting. Bully for them. And yet you still had people protesting.
People are going to be mostly unhappy on both sides of these controversies no matter who's right or wrong. It's the fundamental flaw in human nature that's causing this whole problem. The "us vs. them" mentality that has infected police stations (and DA's offices), and ghettos across the nation. The bottom line is that everybody needs to do better, and the police who've done that deserve plenty of praise.

Just called the police, guy passed out in front of my house in a running car. When I say the guy there I yelled, "can I help you? Hello? This is not a place to hang out. Then I walked up realized he was passed out (he had only parked 1 minute before). So I figured either shake him awake and send him on his way (which is what I would have done if I didn't worry about him killing someone while driving away) or call the police.

Drove drunk more than my share, so I ain't proud. But I didn't want to step up and do the alternative (take his keys away personally). So 4 cops are arresting this guy while I smoke a blunt and watch. Really don't feel good about my choices, just don't see how any were all that great.

God damn police. Guy failed a sobriety test, they sat with him for an hour, then put him in the passenger seat and let him sleep it off. Don't get me wrong, this is exactly what I think they probably should have done, but it leaves with the exact situation I have been working to avoid. My cul-de-sac is not a place for kids to smoke weed, sober up after a good drunk, or spin donuts. I have Ben chasing these bitches away for two years and I finally get one to fucked up to send on his way, and the fuck police co-sign him hanging out.

Shit, the fucking irony kills me. Exactly the last thing I wanted but good policing I guess.

Sorry Jeebs, you did right in my mind and these guys did crappy work. My apologies for their laziness. When I was the sergeant over the DWI unit here, I always told my folks that DWI was the only arrest they would ever make where every arrest had the potential of saving a life. I didn't always feel good about who I was arresting, but they put themselves in the position to be arrested. Had the guy driven off after they left and killed someone it would have been really bad.

You did the right thing, but fuck you for being a hypocrite. You can't piss on police and then expect them to do things exactly how you want it done. You think everything follows a perfect rulebook where everything single situation is addressed and what that exact protocol would be?

he has driven home. I don't know when he left.

I concede your point, he should have been arrested not allowed to sleep it off.

I don't have much sympathy for drunk drivers. I drink as much as anyone. I also drink IN MY HOUSE, or in a friends house where I can crash, or when my wife is driving me home.

Let's break down these accusations by our idiot kicker who got all liquored up and ran his mouth.
You did the right thing, but fuck you for being a hypocrite.
hypocrite? Maybe. I do believe that police and people should be on more equal footing (more ass whipping authority to the general public and less to the police) but believing that doesn't give me my authority. Believe me, I stick my neck out more than I probably should letting people know that my properties are not a hang out spot. But short of starting an unprovoked physical confrontation with a drunk, there wasn't much for me to do. And it is not like the police are going to be all "He talked all big and libertarian on the Internet, he had to fuck this guy up and take his keys". I recognize the wolrd we live in, even when I disagree.

You can't piss on police and then expect them to do things exactly how you want it done.
1. I don't expect anything out of police. I have seen some amazingly bad acts of police and some pretty impressive ones.

2. If police did exactly what I wanted I wouldn't "piss" on them.

You think everything follows a perfect rulebook where everything single situation is addressed and what that exact protocol would be
I think it ironic I only got involved because I didn't want people to think my cul-da-sac is where fucked up people go to hang out, and the cops response to the situation was to have the guy hang out until he wasn't fucked up. I was pretty clear that I could see their point, but...

So, the NYPD are allowed to make political statements, but no one else is.

A friend of mine that works at Texas Motor Speedway sent this to me. I don't think I've ever heard it in all the time I listened to Paul Harvey. Enjoy it, I did..
