Unless you are a running back or o-line what's the draw of going to Wisc.

Don't see a lot of top prospects wanting to go there.

Bevell could be a candidate at Wisconsin

Posted by Mike Florio on December 10, 2014, 6:19 PM EST

With the Wisconsin head-coaching gig finally open, here’s a name to watch as the Badgers start the process of replacing him: Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Folks with a finger on the pulse of such issues have flagged Bevell as a viable candidate. And for good reason; Bevell played quarterback at Wisconsin in the 1990s. His coach at the time was the guy who’ll hire the next coach, A.D. Barry Alvarez.

Bevell has served as the offensive coordinator in Seattle since 2011. Before that, Bevell worked as offensive coordinator with the Vikings. Before that, Bevell was an assistant with the Packers.

Bevell has gotten consideration for NFL head-coaching jobs, but no one has been sufficiently interested to refrain from hiring a coach until Bevell’s season with the Seahawks has ended. With Seattle poised for what appears to be another run deep into the postseason, his best chance to get a head coaching job could be to jump to college football.

The Big 12's Family Feud extends to polls

The biggest story of Playoff Selection Sunday was the split in the Big 12 between co-champions TCU and Baylor and whether one would rank No. 4. The Bears ended up No. 5 over TCU.

That divide continued into the Coaches Poll. Baylor coach Art Briles put his team No. 3, two spots ahead of TCU. Gary Patterson, coach of the Horned Frogs, did the opposite, putting his team two spots ahead of Baylor. That was expected.

What was not expected was everyone else from the Big 12 siding with Patterson. Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy made TCU his No. 1, with Baylor No. 3. Both Bob Stoops and Charlie Strong put TCU two spots ahead of Baylor as well.

Briles was the only Big 12 coach to put Baylor ahead of TCU, despite the fact Baylor had beaten the Horned Frogs. No other coach put the Bears within one position of TCU.

I just don't get this. Bielema was an Arkansas guy and Anderson is a Pac12 guy, but how does Wisconsin keep getting screwed by coaches making lateral moves to average programs?
This is a step down IMO...Wisc is a much better program.

Madison is a great college town...and the athletic programs are top notch.

Yeah anybody that has gone to Madison understands how great it is. Their campus is pretty awesome and the atmosphere at their games gets pretty crazy. They also produce a lot of NFL talent on the O-line, RB and front 7 defensive positions.

I'm an Iowa fan but I have a lot of respect for Wisconsin. I've also been to games there and it is a top notch place.

They probably did this to help the Conference's chances of being 'represented in the playoffs since TCU was already ahead in the bracket.

Recruiting to Corvalis isn't going to be any easier. Just odd that a program that is competitive every year with no high end recruiting classes can't keep coaches all of the sudden.

I wonder if Alvarez is the problem. He might be a hard ass.

That might be it. Wisconsin isn't an elite program but they've been among the better teams in the Big 10 the last decade. Odd to go from the 3rd best Big 10 team to the 10th rated Pac 12 program. Although coming from Utah st he may prefer the west coast to the frozen tundra of Wisconsin.

I think Wisconsin now how to reach out to Paul Chryst. He hasn't been great in his short time at Pitt, but he's a Madison guy, an alum and will stick around no matter what playing the kind of ball Wisconsin wants to play.

That would be a good move.

Virginia Tech's Bud Foster To Be Texas A&M's New Defensive Coordinator

I've heard from two sources I trust that A&M has come to an agreement with their next defensive coordinator, and it is Virginia Tech's defensive coordinator Bud Foster. Foster has been Virginia Tech's defensive coordinator since the 1995 season, and has had his defenses finish among the top defensive units in the nation multiple times.

Foster has had eight teams finish in the top ten in total defense since 1999, including the #1 units in 2005 and 2006. During that same time period, his teams have finished top ten in scoring defense nine times, including the #1 unit in 1999 and 2006, #2 in 2001, '04, and '05, and #3 in 2007.

Foster's 2014 unit is currently #17 in the nation in total defense, giving up 331.7 yards per game. The Hokies are also #17 in scoring defense, giving up 20.4 points per game.

Foster is known for fielding strong units that are technically sound, and strong against the run. If he can improve A&M's run defense and improve the defense's fundamentals in tackling, he will be a huge addition to the program.

Foster has an annuity that pays him $800,000 if he is still at Virginia Tech on December 31, 2014, so it remains to be seen when this hire will become official, and if he will remain on at Tech through the Military Bowl, where they face Cincinnati on December 27.

Think it's actually happening just saw this on VT forum

"A&M insiders reporting offer 1 million base + bonus + will pay 800K over

Contract period. Guessing Bud wanted his 800,000. Was always wondering what was taking so long for him to sign his renewal with VT. This answers it."

You gotta love how aTm has gone all in with the chips in the last 3-4 years. I really admire that. There is absolutely no way that they should not compete to be UTs equal or better. It always blew my mind that a program with such a giant fondation would be average in anyway for so many years. Not as bad as Tennessee but simular. They appear to be done screwing around and have become serious about being ready to compete with the big boys in every possible way.

Don't get me wrong, I will smile at any failure but the future looks bright, imo.

Looking forward to seeing who Braxton Miller transfers to...he can play right away too, he does not have to sit out a year. Texas, Oregon, UCLA, Ark, Okla, have all been mentioned.

No restrictions when you've graduated so I'd like to see him end up at Michigan.
