But every stop Meyer had his teams were great. And they were great for both season's he was at both stops. The year before he got to Utah, they were terrible and then immediately they jumped to 10-2. Meyer was a guy with great schemes that could coach up talent. He wasn't necessarily a proven recruiter but at a school like Florida or Ohio State I don't know that it matters much.
Meyer didn't have to recruit until he got to FL and he had the advantage of Charlie Strong and Clint Hurtt already on the staff which led his efforts. Then they left for L'ville and his recruiting took a huge dive. He left the cupboard pretty bare for Muschamp.

McElwain's deal is for 6 years at 3.5 mill per. Still haven't seen anything on what the buyout was.

Nebraska hires Oregon St coach Mike Riley.

I'm shocked. He's been at OSU for a long time and I never thought I'd see him leave there. Good out-of-the-box thinking by Nebraska.

That seems like it came from nowhere. They fired the last dude for having a much better record than the dude that they hired. That is curious.

Oregon St isn't easy to recruit to and lots of times he's had to rely on JUCO talent. I guess Nebraska thinks he can do better with them. Personally, I don't. I don't think Nebraska can recruit itself like they think it does.

Exactly how I feel...

Nebraska may have a little too high opinion of itself.

When Nebraska played in Texas often they had a better shot at Texas recruits.

The natives are not happy.

I think they could have done better than Mike Riley too. They need a charismatic leader...Riley is not that.

The hire is a head scratcher for sure...

It sounds like he was the 3rd choice...Bielema turned the job down and they were also going for Kyle Whittenham. Not good.
They just fired a dude for winning 9 games. Who wants to walk into that deal?

It was pretty public with Pelini bashing Husker fans, it was not some secret.
Fans who bash are universal and some are legitimate but coaches only have one response and that is their won loss record. Pelini has a pretty good record in that regard. I would say in the upper 20 %.

Sure, but my point was that Pelini went on a rant about Husker fans...so not sure how this relates.
