Dummys. He might miss a week or two, but he was well enough to come back and take more shots in the same game?

Well if you sit him for 2 weeks then he would also have the bye which would give him a 3 week rest break.

We aren't beating the Cardinals without him, but we should beat the Jags without him.

7-3 into the bye week then.

That was adrenaline and pain medication once the swelling and or spasms start its a whole other issue.

I know what it was. Doesn't excuse the fact that they threw a player back out onto the field with history of this condition after taking a hit that's going to cause him pain for weeks.

Exactly.

He's a tough bastard, and this team is stubborn enough to let him go out there just based on what he says, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him out there this week.

With that said, I don't think he should play.

Stick to the original game plan and I'm not going to guarantee its a loss without Romo.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones says Tony Romo's season is not in jeopardy and that the quarterback will be available to play Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals if he can tolerate the pain in his balky back.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo temporarily left Monday's loss to the Redskins in the second half after taking a knee to his surgically repaired back.

"We have nothing medically that would prevent him from playing," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Wednesday morning. "What I mean by that is there is nothing to his injury that won't function.

"This is a function of pain tolerance, [and] it is a serious issue. You could look at people who had similar-type contusions or a similar-type injury and haven't played the next week, so that would cause you some concern."

A CT scan taken Tuesday showed no structural or organ damage, a team source told ESPNDallas.com's Calvin Watkins.

Romo needed surgery last December to repair a herniated disk, and it kept him out for the entire offseason and limited him in training camp and the preseason. Coach Jason Garrett said this latest injury is not related to Romo's back surgery and that Romo's status is day to day.

He took a knee to the back during the third quarter of Monday's 20-17 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins but was able to return after an X-ray proved negative and medical clearance was gained. He did receive a pain-killing injection before re-entering the game.

Romo arrived early to the team's Valley Ranch practice facility Wednesday morning for treatment. He did not report pain in his legs.

A short turnaround between games could be Romo's biggest issue in playing against the Cardinals (6-1). The Cowboys (6-2) would have what Garrett called a "jog through" practice Wednesday before getting into a normal schedule Thursday and Friday.

Romo has not participated in a Wednesday practice since Week 2, as he and the medical staff decided it was best for him to sit out a day to build his strength and make sure he was ready for game days.

In 2011, Romo played following a broken rib and punctured lung suffered in a Week 2 overtime win at San Francisco, but he had an extra day of rest with the Cowboys playing on "Monday Night Football."

If Romo can't play Sunday, Brandon Weeden would make his first start as a Cowboy, and first since Week 13 last year while with the Browns. He posted a 5-15 record over two years as the Cleveland Browns' starter.

In two series of work Monday against the Redskins, Weeden completed 4-of-6 passes for 69 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten that tied the score at 17 early in the fourth quarter.

After Sunday's game against Arizona, the Cowboys will leave for London on Monday for their Nov. 9 meeting against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the bye week after that game, Jones said the team has not had discussions about playing Romo this weekend and possibly sitting him against the Jaguars.

"The main thing is the tolerance," Jones said. "We don't know how impactful the soreness or impactful the stiffness would be on him. We don't know that and won't know that until probably as late as game time."

Jason Garrett doesn't change who he is
October, 29, 2014

By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- The way Jason Garrett acted on Wednesday with reporters, you would think quarterback Tony Romo had the flu or something.

Garrett had the same demeanor he always has when it comes to one of his players being injured: It's a day-to-day process and don't panic. Romo has a bruised back and it's not related to the herniated disc surgery he encountered last season.

Sure it was scary watching the franchise quarterback lay on the ground at AT&T Stadium on Monday night after taking a knee to the lower back. But Romo slowly walked to the locker room and returned to finish the game.

His long-term health will be something to talk about another day. In the present, Garrett has to get his team ready for the blitz-happy Arizona Cardinals during a short week.

There's an expectation Romo will play against the Cardinals based on his pain tolerance level and a team source said a CT scan revealed no structural or organ damage.

"I don’t want to get into any specifics of the scan other than it’s a day-by-day thing with Tony," Garrett said. "We’ll see how he handles the pain and we’ll see how functional he is as the week goes on to see what his availability is for this ballgame."

Romo just needs to rehab, study the game plan and maybe practice once this week.

Sounds simple.

To Garrett it is.

When asked if Romo has a bruised back, Garrett said, "It came from physical contact. Yes."

If Garrett is worried about Romo, he's not showing it. Why would he?

That's not his style.

"Again, this is a day-by-day thing," Garrett said. "Proclamations about the game right now I don’t think are in anybody’s best interest. The biggest thing for us to do is Tony, like with any injured player we have, get treatment, see how you feel, how you feel based on the work that you do, the rehab you have and wake up the next morning and how are you doing, what can we do today? We do that with every player on our team."

Brandon Weeden prepares to start
October, 29, 2014

By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden has had the same routine for about two months: Practice with the first-team offense on Wednesdays and then go back to the scout team the rest of the week.

It gets interesting now for Weeden as starting quarterback Tony Romo deals with a stubborn back that has raised concerns about his availability for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Weeden took the first-team reps in a walkthrough practice Wednesday and is expected to do the same the rest of the week, or at least until further notice.

“It's still a day-to-day type thing,” Weeden said. “I took the reps today and if he's [Romo] out there practicing great, if not then I will step in there and take each rep which has been good for the last seven, eight weeks. I've been able to take the reps on Wednesday which has been big for me so I'm going to treat it no different, if he's able to go that's the best thing. We'll have to see how everything plays out.”

Weeden was pressed to participate in Monday's game against the Washington Redskins when Romo went down in the third quarter when he took a knee to his lower back. He led the Cowboys on two scoring drives, which concluded in a Dan Bailey 21-yard field goal and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten. Weeden's scoring drives led the Cowboys to tie the score twice, but Romo returned for the final drive of the game and remained on the field for overtime.

Weeden finished 4-of-6 for 69 yards and the touchdown.

“He did a nice job,” coach Jason Garrett said. “I thought he had poise and composure, ran the offense, handled himself in the huddle, at the line of scrimmage, made good decisions, made good throws, led us on a couple of scoring drives. He really did a nice job. Not a real surprise.”

Weeden might take over the starting job if Romo is unable to play against the blitz-happy Cardinals, and that's something he's preparing himself for.

“It's just a different mindset, the uncertainty of you may play or you may not play for six, seven eight weeks whatever,” Weeden said. “You just don't know. You've got to approach it like you're going to play at some point, that way when your number is called, you're not caught off guard.”

I was impressed with Weeden...feel like he has a stronger arm than Romo too. Not as accurate or polished, but he had some zip on a couple balls.

Definitely a stronger arm over short period, but it seemed to weaken over the course of just a few preseason games.

Definitely a stronger arm. The guy has a cannon. The problem with Weeden is he throws every ball like it has to be a rocket. Not a lot of touch on his passes. He impressed me as well. Maybe not a guy I want starting long term but a guy who can definitely run some play action pass off a dominant run game and do some serious damage.

I think that's the reason Dez did not make that catch on 3rd down in the endzone he was not used to that velocity.

He still needs to make that grad

Even on the second down pass which was tipped away it was thrown on a rope. Romo usually lofts that ball up there. Now it still may have gotten knocked away but it would have given Bryant a better chance of plucking the ball away from the corner.

I agree, the catch needs to be made when it hits the receivers hands. Still I think Weeden throws a ball that is just more difficult to catch.
