The best thing that the Cowboys did was not trade away any picks from next year's draft.

Also, I hate to be one of those fans, but it'd be really cool if Josh Brent can play this year. Jerry said something about him "anticipating an outcome" -- I don't know what that is but maybe it means minimal jail time.

He would really be a huge boost to the DL.

I'm guessing the jail time will be minimal at most. I think what he is hinting at is that the NFL hasn't made any decision's as to what they will do but that otherwise Josh Brent will be clear at some point this up coming season. I think our draft has reflected that and that's why I think Jerry mentioned having great depth at the one technique spot. I think he is counting Lissemore and Brent as NT's and I'm guessing that Hatcher will start there even though he is far from the prototype for that position.

With Austin, Dez, Witten, Williams, and an emerging Harris in the fold I just don't see Escobar having a significant impact on offense.

Frankly I'll be surprised if he hits 25 receptions on the year. I just don't see it happening.

I know the Cowboys don't understand it, but generally teams use that 2nd round pick on players who are expected to have a significant impact sooner rather than later.
That's the other sad part about this whole TE offense bullshit. Who would you rather see on the field next year. A 3 WR set including Williams or a two TE set with Williams on the bench. Personally I will take the 3 WR set any day. We are way more successful out of that formation then we are out of the 2 TE stuff. It has nothing to do with not having a good second TE and has everything to do with the fact that we suck at running the ball. When you suck at run blocking, a 2 TE set is stupid and bound to fail. You're better off spreading things out and hitting passes quickly. Also giving Romo more room to scramble and improvise.

The last thing we need in Dallas is a 2 TE offense. Nothing against Escobar, it just makes no sense.

Yep. Forcing this 2 TE set makes zero sense. And if you draft a TE that high you'd like to hope he can catch and block and not just be one dimensional. I thought Hanna was progressing enough to be a pass catching #2 TE and if we needed a blocking TE, we should've been able to found one later in the draft or during FA.
And I don't see how some are saying Escobar is Witten's eventual replacement if the guy isn't a solid blocker.

How much better does this draft look instead:

1 (31) FS Jonathan Cyprien
2 (47) C Travis Frederick
3 (74) WR Terrance Williams
3 (80) DT Jonathan Jenkins
4 (114) LB Khaseem Greene
5 (151) OL David Quesenberry
6 (185) RB Andre Ellington

I don't know if Frederick would have been there, but assume he would have been.
If you're doing this do it right and use only players available at the pick, don't pull a "he would have been".

Wasn't Witten a pretty bad blocker when he got here? I seem to remember Dan Campbel working with him pretty closely his first couple seasons until Parcells was comfortable with Witten's blocking. I don't see why you wouldn't just work with Hanna to improve his blocking and pick up a late round blocking specialist, but then I don't have 20+ years of experience as an NFL GM so who am I to criticize?

105.3 The Fan interviewed Ciskowski today and he flat out said, "Jerry makes the final decision." He responded to an earlier question by saying that they provide all the information so that Jerry can make the most informed decision.

I wish I could find that interview online.

This should put to rest any talk of Garrett being the final decision maker...Maybe Ciskowski is turning on Jerruh after being rejected with the Shariff Floyd/trade down.

Per Brandon George of the DMN.

Head coach Jason] Garrett, at one point, had a blank look across his face as he started rubbing his forehead with his hand. Ciskowski and Stephen Jones also had an animated exchange. It was a rare show of emotion by Ciskowski.

Feh.

Evil media interpretation.

It is much better to notice the fist daps when the pick is actually made.

I have yet to see any war room crowd do a face palm, but hey...that's me being negative or something.

One other interesting tidbit from 105.3 The Fan...our first six draft picks missed zero games in 2012 and a combined two games in 2011.

A reaction to Lee, Carter, Murray and others missing all those games last year?

What fricktard with a brain thought Garrett made the final call?

What they did in college has zero to do with what they do when they realize what they can get away with in Dallas.

It is kinda cute we are looking for those attributes now, but this is, well six guys.

Of course. And back when Jimmy was here Jerry just rubberstamped Jimmy's decisions so he could claim he "made the final call" and act like he had something to do with the process.
But when we haven't had someone like Jimmy or even BP in the war room, Jerry is far away the most dominant presence and too often with our high round selections he goes off on his own instead of siding with the majority.

As owner/GM he could just rubberstamp the decisions in the room and then take credit for it. But that's not why he bought the team. He wants to be the guy making the decisions. Just a rich clueless fan playing fantasy football with a real team.

I'm pretty sure everyone was aware of this. Jerry has said so himself many, many times. It's what GMs do...

You'd think that when Jerry says "I make the final decision on all personnel matters" that they would believe him. He did the same thing when Jimmy was here, the only difference was Jerry basically did whatever Jimmy wanted because he respected and trusted his opinion on the matter. Jerry doesn't have that trust or respect for anyone currently in our organization.
