Thanks.

I've used them both, and I'll take this one any day over the BGE.

If you want to maintain a constant temp without adding coals a ceramic smoker can't be beat.

One small bag of lump coal with 2 pork butts smoked for 22 hours and I never lifted the lid. You will never do that with that set up.

I'm not saying that the one you have is wrong. I'm sure it is just fine and I would enjoy it just like you do.

Actually, I don't own that. Yet. My brother has that one, and I've used it a couple times. I'm going to order it, but haven't decided yet on this one, or the 20" Wichita model. Probably will just stick with the 16". It's quite a drastic price jump for just a little bit bigger smoker, and an extra rack that I more than likely won't use much.

I have an electric 6 rack Bradley right now. I like it, and it works really well, but I want to go to a stick burner for doing ribs, butts, brisket, etc... The Bradley is awesome for specialty stuff like fatties and whatnot. Also to cold smoke on. I am just a greedy SOB. I must have BOTH!

Nothing wrong with having different smokers/grills for different things, I have my offset for when I'm cooking alot of food, a weber kettle for quick burgers/steaks, and recently got one of the electric box smokers from Lowe's for when I just want to set it and forget it

If I was dropping that much I'd want a reverse flow offset from Klose, but to each his own.
I've looked his stuff over, and been by his shop. The only thing he has does both grilling and smoking the way the Pitmaker's unit does is:

http://www.bbqpits.com/backyard_smokers/20x20_byc_combo_jr.htm

But it costs about the same. Side note, his site is awful to navigate!

Been to Pitts & Spitts and Gator grills in Houston too. (Off topic question, ever wondered why there are so many of the big time custom grill/bbq fabricators in Houston? I have and don't have an answer) Pitts and Spitts used to have one very similar to the Pittmaker BBQ Safe that wasn't nearly as expensive ($2200 if I am remembering correctly). But they changed up their page and I don't see it any more. Might have to plan a trip to Houston and go on a BBQ fabricator crawl....

Iamtdg you ever use one of the AMNPS pellet smokers in your electric smoker? I was at Tractor Supply the other day and they had them marked half off so impulse bought one, giving it a try today with a brisket.

I have not. Because of the design, there isn't room in the bottom of my electric smoker for the tray. I can however remove the casing that contains the wood chip tube fairly easily, so let me know how your brisket goes, and I might try it.

Iirc I have the same one as you, the 30" from Lowes. I just left out the water pan and the shelf it slides into and sat the AMNPS on the lowest rack with an aluminum foil tent over it. I'll take a pic when I go check it in a few

This is the one I have. It doesn't have a water pan. It has a small drip pan, but the right side of the bottom of the inside is where the side-loading chute is.

Same one I have, and unless the inside of yours is different the little rectangular pan on left is a water pan
I didn't figure a pellet tray would fit in that space.

Oh you put it on the bottom shelf. I gotcha now.

EDIT: I went back and reread our conversation and you said that. I'm just an idiot who skims when he reads too much.

But, mine doesn't have that water pan. Weird.

Here it is just pulled it at 195° IT about to foil wrap and let rest in cooler for hour or so

Cubed the point and its back in the smoker making burnt ends now. AMNPS has been smoking 11 hours now and looks to have least couple hours of pellets left, it gets my seal of approval.
