I'm sure someone got in teh Jerruh's ear: "I know how we can stay in the headlines all season long... it's even a credible "football" move with the state of our DL..."
You went full retard lately.

So, they are going to hold a special PC just for Sam. Gay.
Not really...the Nets had one after they signed Jason Collins. Socially it is a big deal.

Michael Sam's arrival met with shrug

September, 3, 2014

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- Tony Romo introduced himself to Michael Sam on Wednesday and had a quick message for the newest member of the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad member: Let's get to work.

Jason Witten, "came to me and say pretty much the same things, so it's just about football and they want to win."

Sam, who is the first openly gay player in professional football, practiced for the first time with the Cowboys on Wednesday after signing with the team in the morning.

The only accommodation the Cowboys made to Sam's arrival was to have him speak to the media outside the locker room considering the large media contingent on hand.

The reaction of the Cowboys' players to same was mostly the same.

"I'm going to view him as I view any other guy in this locker room," wide receiver Dez Bryant said. "He deserves respect. I don't judge a book by its cover. He's a football player, and I'm not going to look at him any different. I expect that from everybody in the locker room. It is what it is. We're going to go play football."

Said running back DeMarco Murray, "Didn't have a reaction, just like my reaction when they sign other practice squad guys. It's not a big deal. If he's here to help us win, then treat him like any other guy. Doesn't matter."

Coach Jason Garrett addressed the signing with the team before practice. Jason Witten, one of the Cowboys' captains, does not expect there to be any negative fallout from the signing of Sam.

"I do think we have really good leadership, guys who have been through a lot and learned a lot through that and just level-headed and just are committed," Witten said. "I think this is a group of guys that are completely committed to this team and doing everything we can and that starts with coach Garrett. But it flows through the leaders and everybody else on the team that have to follow that. I don't really see that being any distraction. And I think everybody understands it's just in hopes of making our football team better. That's all we can try to do, for all of us."

Jerry Jones: Michael Sam is not ready at all, but we hope he can refine his skills
By Jon Machota jmachota@dallasnews.com

Michael Sam isn’t ready to step in and lead the Dallas Cowboys in sacks on Sunday. He’s a practice squad player the Cowboys are hoping can improve and possibly help them down the road.

Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones made that clear during a Texas Lottery news conference in Austin on Wednesday.

“We are looking for pressure, for pressure players and that’s his position,” Jones said, via The Associated Press. “He’s from Texas. A practice squad player first and foremost has to be very good at helping the Cowboys practice. By the definition, that’s what it’s about. They are the team that we work against, be it our offense or defense. But it’s a chance to develop players as well.

“To get a player that has shown success at being able to rush the passer, that’s what he was in college, he was outstanding at it. We hope that he can refine his skills. He’s not ready to go at all, but can he come in and learn?”

Jones said it will not be a distraction to have the first openly gay player in the NFL on Dallas’ practice squad.

So why again wasn’t he on the Cowboys’ draft board in May?

“He was what we call a tweener,” Jones said. “A little too small. To be a down lineman, you need to be a little bigger … He wasn’t fast enough to be somebody who covers the ball … But he has a dimension that is unique, and that is he has unique bend and he can rush the passer. So normally a player that has that aspect, you need him to also play special teams which is the third part of the game.”

Asked if he was trying to lower expectations that Sam could crack the team’s 53-man roster, Jones said he was only giving an evaluation.

“If he’s good enough to develop as a practice squad [player] and evolve,” Jones said, “and many players do, evolve into a contributor, that would be a plus for the Cowboys, that’s it.”

Looking for a Michael Sam jersey with the Cowboys? You won’t find it.

Michael Sam has one of the NFL’s hottest selling jerseys with St. Louis.

But if you’re looking for the Cowboys to crank out Sam jerseys now that the defensive end has joined the team, you’ll be disappointed.

Sam is one of 10 players on the practice squad. The club doesn’t mass produce jerseys for practice squad players and a club official said Wednesday they won’t make an exception now.

Can you still get a Michael Sam jersey? Sure. You can order a customized version just like you can with any other player. The club has fielded a few of those requests in the 24 hours since the news broke he was coming to Dallas. But you will not see a Michael Sam display at the Cowboys pro shop.

Sam had the sixth highest selling jersey in the NFL this offseason as training camps began. The only other defensive player to rank in the top 10 at the time was Seattle’s Richard Sherman.

Another interesting note: Sam has been assigned the No. 46. If he does make the active roster at some point this season, he must change his number to something higher.

Defensive linemen aren’t allowed to wear any number below 50.

One other tidbit: Sam, and every other player on the practice squad, makes $6,300 a week. That salary increases to $25,000 a week if they land on the active roster.

Christian Group Plans Protest Over Michael Sam Joining Cowboys

September 3, 2014 7:39 PM

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – The group American Decency says thousands of right-wing Christians will demonstrate at AT&T Stadium Sunday to protest the Dallas Cowboys signing Michael Sam to its practice squad.

Sam is the first openly gay player drafted to the NFL.

Jack Burkman heads the group which claims to have 3.62 million members in 41 states. Burkman says, “We cannot just stand idly by as Christian values and morals are trampled. We will do whatever we can to preserve family values in this country.”

Rafael McDonnell of the Resource Center, which provides services to the LGBT community, says Sam could help the Cowboys win on and off the field. “He is a talented football player, and if he can help us win, it’s a bonus that he happens to be part of the LGBT community. It shines a light about how difficult it is to be open and out at your job.”

Some callers to 105.3 The Fan made verbal tackles against Sam. One caller said, “I don’t want my kids looking up to me and say Daddy, what does that mean that he’s gay?” But other fans say with the Cowboy‎’s weak defense, they may need Michael Sam’s strengths. “If he can use the speed to get around the corner and get to the quarterback, hey, that’s all we need.”

After the Cowboys passed up the chance to draft quarterback ‎Johnny Manziel, and all the hype that followed, some analysts wonder if owner and general manager Jerry Jones wanted to create a buzz around his team.

Erin Patton is a former Nike executive who’s now an adjunct professor at TCU’s Neeley School of Business. “Anything the Cowboys can do by adding personality and entertainment into their gumbo of a brand, I think ultimately at the end of the day, that translates into increased relevance, increased sales, and increased brand equity,” he said.

But Patton says winning games is still always the top priority. “I think they would be remiss as an organization to put marketing or pr stunts ahead of what’s most important, which is putting a strong product on the football field.”

Others, including Patton, believe Sam may attract new fans to the Cowboys.

Listen, I'm no huge supporter of teh gays but this is nonsense. So a gay person shouldn't be able to hold a job because you don't want to explain to your kids what gay means? Seems to me that it's be a teaching opportunity. And since when is it "against Christian morals" for gay people to live and have jobs? It's against the morals of a Christian to act on homosexuality or to say it's not sinful, but guess what, every other player on the team isn't a great role model either. Josh Brent killed someone for chrissakes.

If your opinion is that you don't want the media to put on some ridiculous celebration of his lifestyle (we don't need stories about the sexual preferences of any player period, it should be private) that's a much more valid point, but, um, sorry, they can be employed by your favorite football team if it helps them win a game. Please stfu.

Eh. I could care less as long as the gay, er guy can play. He may be slow but he has some ability and I'd rather have someone with some level of potential on the practice squad than kicking the tires on some schmuck that's been cleaning bathrooms for two months since being cut.

The gay part? I really could care less, I'm just sick and tired of hearing about it ever since he came out. I get tired of anything that gets sensationalized by the media. I really don't think the media circus will be that bad. If he starts cutting into Jerrah's face time too much, that will be nipped in the bud quickly.

Shoot, I hope he can play considering the way our defense is expected to perform because after last year, this is the first year I considered skipping NFL ST in a long time. I haven't anticipated a season this little since the sun began to set on the Landry years. There was a DirecTV ad talking about the game coming up on Sunday and I was thinking "Gawd, do I really want to watch?".

Couldn't.

As in, could not.

If you could care less, that would imply that you do in fact, care.

GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I know Jerry's saliva gland is really going apeshit over the glory hole windfall potential of Sam. Damn T shirt salesman...
