Those who either swear by HBO's The Wire or have never seen it (but have been pestered to by those who swear by it) are in luck. HBO is remastering the show for HD and bringing it back for a re-airing!
The Verge reports that no clear air date has been set, but that HBO is planning to marathon all five remastered seasons of a David Simon's Baltimore "Cops/Crooks/Schools/Politics/Journalists" masterpiece sometime in the near future.
The Wire reportedly was shot with Panavision cameras in Super 35, which means that the sides were cut off when it originally aired on TV in 4:3 SD. And a widescreen version of the series was streaming on Amazon Prime a few years back, but HBO has yet to comment on what aspect ration The Wire will have when it returns.
According to the promo below, Sept. 4th is/was the premiere date for the remastered airings, though HBO has told The Verge that the episodes "aren't ready."
