FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Tensions are high in Ferguson, Missouri and a large police presence is on hand after a teenager was shot to death by a police officer.

The St. Charles County Police Department held a press conference Sunday morning where they stated Brown was shot “more than just a couple of times” by a 6-year member of the Ferguson Police department.

The incident happened in a roadway Saturday afternoon near the Canfield Green Apartments in the 2900 block of Canfield.

Witnesses tell News 4 that Mike Brown, 18, was unarmed and had his hands in the air when he was shot multiple times by a Ferguson police officer. Police have not confirmed those claims and have not released any details of the incident other than an officer was involved and that he has been placed on administrative leave.

Dorian Johnson tells News 4 he was walking with Brown when the officer confronted them and drew his weapon.

“He (the officer) shot again and once my friend felt that shot, he turned around and put his hands in the air,” said Dorian Johnson, a friend Brown’s. “He started to get down and the officer still approached with his weapon drawn and fired several more shots.”

St. Louis County NAACP President Esther Haywood told News 4 that Brown was shot once by the officer and then an additional nine times as he lie in the street. Police have not confirmed that account.

“He was a good kid. He didn’t live around here,” said Desuirea Harris, grandmother of the victim. “He came to visit me and they did that to him for no reason.”

Ferguson Police called for assistance from St. Louis County and nearby municipalities as large, emotional crowds gathered at the scene. In all more than 100 officers from 15 departments responded to the area. Tactical teams in riot gear were also called in. At one point, a dumpster was set on fire in protest of the shooting. A section of West Florissant Avenue near the scene was closed for a time on Saturday evening.

Through Saturday afternoon and evening some among the crowds were yelling profanities at police demanding justice. At one point gun shots rang out in the area as investigators gathered evidence. That prompted numerous police canine units to move in and move the crowds back.

The St. Louis County NAACP says they have launched their own an investigation and plan to “get to the bottom of what has occurred and will work to ensure that justice is served for all victims involved.”

Haywood also released a statement saying: “We are hurt to hear that yet another teenaged boy has been slaughtered by law enforcement especially in light of the recent death of Eric Garner in New York who was killed for selling cigarettes. We plan to do everything within our power to ensure that the Ferguson Police Department as well as the St. Louis County Police Department releases all details pertinent to the shooting. We strongly encourage residents to stay away from the crime scene so that no additional citizens are injured. I have spoken directly with St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, and I am confident that both he and his department will ensure that the investigation is conducted properly and that all details are kept transparent.”

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson says St. Louis County Police have taken over the investigation and the officer involved in the shooting has been put on paid administrative leave.

I demand to know the races before I choose sides.

But seriously wtf. This might just be a case of a fucking pyscho not bad police policy. Still a point for not giving anyone to much authority.

Hopefully they punish him, to often they don't.

The police account is that there was a struggle for the officer's weapon after the two guys shoved him into his cruiser and scrambled for his sidearm.

But we know that we can't trust police accounts because police accounts are untrustworthy. Logic.

Of course there's a police account, imagine my surprise at their blamelessness

Well, that's unfortunate. If he was unarmed, there was no need to shoot him.

What with the ammo shortage and all, they should have just pistol whipped him.

I could be talked into more baton and less taser.

Cops Break Into Private Property and Shoot Owner’s Dog After Serving A Warrant to the

It all started when police showed up at the wrong house to serve a warrant to a person that the homeowner didn’t even know. When Richard Stotlar, the homeowner, told the cops he didn’t know who they were talking about, they proceeded to break into the property.

According to WESH, Richard Stotlar said Lady, which he rescued more than a year ago, is now stitched up and in pain after being shot three times about midnight Friday on Elsie Avenue in Holly Hill.

“I was sitting in there, watching TV, and all of a sudden we hear three gunshots,” Stotlar said.Stotlar said he ran outside and saw officers in his backyard with Lady surrounded.

Officers said the dog made an aggressive move.

The department is calling the incident an accident and are writing it off as a “rookie” mistake.

It must be nice to be able to unlawfully break into someone’s property, kill their dog, and face no penalty whatsoever.

My favorite is when the police officers just cut and paste on common crimes such as DWI's. You usually catch it when they refer to a male subject as a female or a female subject as a male.

Any one surprised that the police murder an unarmed kid and they hid his name? Zimmer didn't get that luxury, or any other suspected murderer. But he is police, so he is supposed to kill unarmed kids and we should protect him (because he protects us)...

The accounts I'm hearing from the news bear out that the cop in question had good reason to shoot in this case. IMO, as a cynic, it's a shame so many cops shoot when they shouldn't because it paints the ones who shoot for good reason with the same brush. Essentially the situation in this case is almost exactly like Zimmerman's. The "teen" who was apparently over 300 pounds shoved the cop into his vehicle and started beating him down while another guy went for the gun, the cop fired once and missed, then got them off of him, then they saw the gun in his hand and lunged for it, trying to take it away again now that it was out of his holster and the cop looked dazed and the 300 lb "teen" lost the gamble. According to witnesses at the scene (not cops) the officer looked battered and his eye was swollen shut as he was led from the scene.

If I was beat down and concussed and had to shoot my way out of the situation, I wouldn't give a shit about words like "unarmed teen" above words like "live to see tomorrow".

If I'm looking for an innocent victim I don't look for a thug from the kind of St Louis neighborhood that uses looting businesses in their own community as a form of protest. All that's going to come of this is the cops refusing to go there after dark anymore because the Chief doesn't want any more bad publicity.

One, who looks for innocent victims? 2. I wouldn't get all uppity and dismissive of civil violence, riots are the outlet of those who have none.

Yeah, the right to trash a local liquor store and steal the booze is what we're all fighting for here.

Fuck you clay, I thought we were having fun here.
You stand strong with looters, NAACP lawyers, and a media that writes hagiographies for street thugs.

Own it. Sing us a verse of We Shall Overcome.
