If you're done with the topic, why read the thread further? It's just going to make you want to post more.
Not on the topic it won't.If you're done with the topic, why read the thread further? It's just going to make you want to post more.
Funny...a week ago that was a word that you did not want brought before new posters...now, complete 180. Weird how that happens.I stand by those posts, but didn't feel I needed to be involved in that conversation any further.
I don't have to explain myself to you, so carry on.Funny...a week ago that was a word that you did not want brought before new posters...now, complete 180. Weird how that happens.
Why are you extremely offended by pot? I have heard of this, just never seen it.It's an example of what value systems have evolved. A mascot is shameful but pot is almost condoned. The point is value systems that get people worked up and what offends. I am extremely offended by the latter and will say so. I am not trying to divert the discussion rather defending those of us who are not offended by a mascot name that has been around for a long time. It has never been viewed as something slanderous. It has simply been viewed as a mascot name. It was stated that societies have changed and I certainly am in agreement.
Oh I guess it's just the way I was raised. Why are you extremely offended by pot? I have heard of this, just never seen it.
I understand not liking it or thinking it should be illegal, but what about it offends you? I mean why even care?Oh I guess it's just the way I was raised.
Why does it bother you that it is offensive to me? Different things are offensive to different people. It's a diverse world.I understand not liking it or thinking it should be illegal, but what about it offends you? I mean why even care?
I'm curious as well. The word "offensive" seems strange to me regarding this topic. Why does it bother you that it is offensive to me? Different things are offensive to different people. It's a diverse world.

Back in the 30s, racism was ok and pot caused reefer madness. It was a different time.I understand not liking it or thinking it should be illegal, but what about it offends you? I mean why even care?
What has racism got to do with anything. You can do better than that.Back in the 30s, racism was ok and pot caused reefer madness. It was a different time.
okStay curious.
I am not in a debate. That's the whole point.ok
All this tells me is using the term offensive was just talking out of your butt when you were in a debate and you've got nothing else.
I will admit society has changed. Mascot names are now offensive and pot is not only accepted but becoming more and more legal. What a country. I guess I am just out of step about what is offensive.
I can assure you that I am equally incredulous about the prevalence of certain things in our society in this day and age, but I'll leave it at that.
If you think it's a "leave well enough alone" situation then fair enough. That's your opinion. I'm assuming you must see "redskin" as more in line with "colored folks" and "the Orientals" than with "niggers" or "chinks". The latter have always had negative connotations while the former were at one time considered almost polite, and certainly acceptable, terms. They no longer are, of course, but at one time they were.

Here's a recap of the conversation that got us here: a conversation about racist team names and mascots. What has racism got to do with anything. You can do better than that.
Debate, discussion, whatever you want to call it. At one point you said people smoking pot was offensive to you. Just asking for clarification of the thought process since that sounds like a major over reaction to such a minor thing.I am not in a debate. That's the whole point.

In the prior topic racism was involved in the mascot discussion but the current garfuffle switched to pot. I might add these comments were in April. I guess someone felt like stirring the pot. Pardon the pun. Here's a recap of the conversation that got us here: a conversation about racist team names and mascots.
