Don't disagree but the team is married to Romo as long as he is upright and functional. If things remain status quo look for activity in two years.
Yes. Let's just go in desperate for a QB 2 years from now...no need to plan ahead and actually train up your next QB.

When you do plan ahead and have a QB ready, there's no telling whether he'll be any good until he plays.

I'm all for getting a QB soon, since Romo is probably only two years away (and we need a backup not named Weeden anyway).

What I'm against is going for a 5th-7th. There have been 95 QBs taken since Tom Brady and none of them have panned out. Throwing picks down that hole just doesn't make any sense.

Teams can get an idea of a QB's ability in camps and in preseason. You don't necessarily have to wait until the QB gets on the field in regular season to gauge whether or not the QB can play. Romo is a perfect example of that. He performed well in camp and preseason games and was eventually handed the job based largely on those preseason performances.

I agree with you there. I've always been a proponent of the Cowboys spending the proper resources to obtain their next QB. Drunken Jerry said it himself, Romo was a miracle. It's highly unlikely that we'll found our next QB in the 4th round or later.

My post about 5th-7th wasn't necessarily talking about this coming draft. We are in a situation where we need Romo's replacement drafted soon, so you want a more surefire prospect. I was talking about general draft years taking a shot in the 5-7 range to develop and use as trade bait or keep as a backup. Low risk/High reward.

Well, of the 95 QBs taken since Brady in rounds 4-7, 5 have developed into quality backup type QBs. The reward is largely imaginary. Meanwhile a lot of starters at other positions are taken in those rounds.

I would take the chance.

By us? Since Jerry is drafting I see no reason not to take a chance on a late round qb since most of our late round guys are jags anyways

We ought to make our 4th rounder our annual qb pick, it makes more sense than whatever "strategy" they are using for it now

This is a very poor use of statistics. Like I have said before, you could take anyone of those QBs drafted in rounds 4-7 in the third and it doesn't make them any better of a prospect. It's about the analysis of each individual player. Not some generic claim that taking a QB after the third is pointless.

You're making too much sense, you might want to stop that.

That and it's silly to try and equate the importance of the QB position to literally any other position on the field.

You must buy a lot of lottery tickets.

Taking a prospect in the third doesn't make him better, but it doesn't change the fact that all of the good QBs will be taken by other teams by the 4th.

Thank goodness we drafted Tony Romo high.

I just remembered Brandon Weeden played pro baseball. It all makes sense.

You can't sign all the undrafted players you want and a lot of starters at other positions are found as undrafted free agents.
True, you don't want to waste all of your UDFA selections on a QB that has almost zero chance of panning out. I had much rather take a chance on the potential of coming home with a Miles Austin.
