Cobb will certainly help, Hellickson I'm not so sure. I mean, he can't be Erik Bedard bad but I don't think he'll be the answer to the rotation.
CC and Kuroda are both showing their age and innings on those arms, geesh. It's just Tanaka right now pitching well in the rotation. Nuno is in for Nova and now Phelps is in for Pineda.

CC didn't impress me last season but I didn't think he's get worse. He's just a fat shell of what he used to be.

That Garza trade has been a huge boon for the Cubs. I say in the context of them being a terrible team so it isn't truly doing them any good, but they got a lot of useful parts to help fill out their roster. Olt has shown flashes and hit some dingers but I think he is still far from a lock to turn into a quality every day third baseman. Fair chance he remains at least a power bat off the bench/spot starter. Grimm has given them decent bullpen innings and now Neil Ramirez is up doing the same thing. CJ Edwards is resting a sore shoulder I think but has obviously shown a lot of promise in the minors.

Also getting Travis Wood for Sean Marshall a couple years ago and Arrieta for Feldman last year look pretty good. Wood is a legit mid/late rotation starter. Not great but solid and threw 200 innings last year and should do so again. Arrieta can be good if he keeps the walks under control. He has a chance.

Sadly these small victories are about all I have as a Cubs fan right now. "Decent" and "chance". :budd

Yu Darvish working on a no-hitter in the 9th.

One out away.

I jinxed him.

Big Papi breaks it up with a single to right.

Was it a single? I thought I read on twitter something was inaccurately scored an error instead if a hit.
That was in the 7th I think. Big Papi got a legit single up the middle with 2 out in the 9th.

In the seventh the scored an error on Rios to break up the perfect game. In the 9th Ortiz broke up the no hitter.

I don't think he's as good as Darvish either, but they both came to the US at 25 and I think Tanaka will have a better rookie season than Darvish did.

I think Yu throws a no hitter this season. So many close calls.
I hate to reply to my own post, but so close again.

With all the hoopla of the draft yesterday, I forgot about the Twins traveling into Detroit to face Verlander.

They beat him, 2-1 behind Phil Hughes. Hughes has had 4 straight quality starts and is 4-1.

:faint

The official scoring the game called Elias and they actually made the call. Called an error but stated the the no hit bid did influence their decision.

Well, that's just cheap.

I'd deport him immediately.

Well...the Mets are being kind this year, not stringing me along for a half season.

Fire Collins and bring up Backman. I think this team is what it is, but I think Wally would give a jolt of energy that Collins lacks.

Wash has to be on the hot seat. You can have him next season.
