I'm not a huge fan of Ford but he's in the group that I'd like us to target if we trade down from 16, along with Jernigan, Ealy, Pryor, perhaps Ward, Mosley if he's on the board, Hageman, Su'a-Filo and Morgan Moses.

Jadeveon Clowney: I work as hard as anybody

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 27, 2014, 10:01 AM EDT

Jadeveon Clowney is sick of all the talk about his work ethic, and he wants his future NFL teammates to know that they’re going to see just how hard he works.

“I think I work just as hard as anybody,” Clowney told the Associated Press. “If you pick me and pair me with guys, I’m going to try and outwork them also.”

Clowney would like to stop discussing his work ethic, but he knows that the questions about it won’t go away any time soon.

“I’ve been tired of it, but you have to keep doing it,” he said.

The good news for Clowney is that the pre-draft hype is almost over. In 11 days he’ll be in the NFL, and he’ll have the opportunity to prove those who doubt him wrong.

I'd take Ford if we traded down to the bottom of the first. I think he's a pass rush specialist as a rookie but he's the kind of guy who could deliver big production in limited snaps even if he just played in the Nickel packages.

I like Demarcus Lawrence better than Dee Ford I think. Though they are close.

You seem to like those pass rush stats in terms of predicting what a player is capable of, but he's behind pretty much all the other 1st or 2nd round prospects in those numbers.

Might as well wait a round for Attaochu if you believe them to be accurate.

Yeah, I know.... Lawrence just passes the eyeball test to me though. He looks explosive. He reminds me of Ware a little.

If we traded down to 25-30, I wouldn't hate Dee Ford though. I just prefer Lawrence.

Hell, from 31-35, I'd flat out love either of those picks.

I wonder if Dallas is one of them. Hope not.

This team is too close to a rebuild to trade up for anything but a QB.

I was looking at Ourlads 2014 Draft Guide today.

Interestingly, it assigns

35 first round grades
34 second round grades
40 third round grades
65 fourth round grades
41 fifth round grades, and
60 sixth round grades
____________________
275 total grades in the first six rounds.

Notably, the draft is only 256 selections this year. So there shouldn't be a player selected with a 7th round grade, if (in the completely hypothetical) Ourlads nailed their evaluation perfectly.

But I guess the point is, you can see that there will be a little bit of overflow from players with 1st round grades left available in the 2nd round (there should be three (3) left).

Then that means there will be five (5) players with 2nd round grades left at the start of the 3rd round.

Because of the comp picks, there will only be nine (9) players left with 3rd round grades at the start of the 4th round.

However, there is a gluttony of 4th round graded players (65). That means at the end of the 4th round, there will still be THIRTY THREE (33) players with fourth round grades.

Sounds like the place to be is the 5th round this year; that is where you will get the most steals.

I wonder how this compares to other years. Does Ourlads always assign fourth round grades to that many players? If so, then this is actually just normal. But it sounds to me like there is an overload of fourth round talent in this draft and that we should grab as many extra fourths and fifths as possible to soak it all up.

I'll have to check later. I have a couple years of Ourlads back issues.

I would never have realized how substantial 33 was if you had not capitalized it. Extra props for that.

Yup, last year there were 52 fourth round grades. In 2012 there were 47.

That means there are 13 more fourth round grades this year than last year, and 18 more than in 2012.

There's also less 1st-3rd round grades overall in 2012, meaning those fifth rounders are going to be significantly more valuable than a year like 2012.

Rappaport on NFLN just "reported" that the Falcons might trade up, stay where they are, or trade down. Fuck me, can we just get on with it.

No shit. This extra two weeks have not built the anticipation for me. If anything it is pissing me off with all the conjecture and bullshit. A few weeks ago, I thought it was just this draft. Oh no, it's not. It is the extra time people have to fart around after the Combine is over and done.

I'd be careful using Ourlad's as a barometer.

But it does give Mike Mayock two more weeks to have people tell him what to think. So there is that.
