Glad you find it funny, asshole. The way I have it figured, Jones, Parcells and Carthon owe me about $500 bucks I had to pay for a new cover over the stove.
In that case, they owe me a beer mug and a window.

So you're saying you could just call 800-StoveRange to fix it?

I think it was right about the time that Tagliabue announced "with the pick acquired in trade with the Buffalo Bills...the uh...Dallas Cowboys select...Julius Jones, running back from Notre Dame" that I smelled smoke.

The only thing worse was when Det snatched up Mike Williams at 10 in 2005. I mean we got Ware, but just think of what could have been with Williams. Right guys? You feel me?

I still approve of trading down in that scenario, giving up a 20-something first in exchange for a 2nd and a future first, especially when the target is a RB, as that position is generally one of the most dime-a-dozen spots.

That is how you accumulate primo assets. I would even approve of that approach this year. I'd give up 16 for something like 34 and a future first.

You just have to draft correctly.

Everyone has to be good at something, and you are really damn good at killing a buzz.

So it could've been a good move if the picks weren't wasted on Jones and Spears? Agreed.

In hindsight, yes, but the RB position was still considered pretty valuable back then.

As an aside, I don't know what film Parcells and co. were looking at. Julius Jones was in no way a comparable talent to Stephen Jax. Jackson was dominant in college. Jones was pretty good.

So the cowboys were idiots for trading up for Emmitt Smith.

I remember how pissed I was when that happened. Easily the best RB in the draft fell right into our laps and we trade back like some dumbasses. The RB position was our biggest need that year as well.

I was posting at ESPN at the time and me and the rest of the posters were livid.

IIRC, leading up to the draft Jackson was projected as a top 5-10 pick and he fell to the 20s.
I stopped watching the draft that year when we passed on Jackson.
Same here.

It is easily the most angry I've ever been over anything Cowboys related that didn't involve a game.

Like Carp, I didn't watch another second of that draft after that.

Oh, hell yeah. We were all high fiving each other. Because heading into the draft we figured we'd have to settle on the 2nd or 3rd best RB. Jackson was thought to be out of the question unless we traded up.

So we were celebrating like crazy when he was still on the board in the 20s. Then I started getting worried because we were taking too much time for what should have been a slam dunk pick. And sure as shit these jackasses outsmarted themselves with that dumbass trade.

Good times.
I knew there was a problem when they had a camera fixed on Jackson and he just sat there dumbfounded, wondering why he wasn't getting a phone call.
Yup.

I'm sitting there before the draft hoping that there are no surprises and that Kevin Jones is there for our pick, but then Jackson slides and slides and slides.

When it's our pick, I started celebrating like crazy because there was no way we were passing on him......and then the clock kept ticking and ticking and I knew something was wrong.

This was the moment I started to become a jerry-hater. I even stood by jerry when he bypassed Randy Moss. But bypassing Steven Jackson made me see the light.

I hate Jerry as much as the next man, but that move was definitely way more Parcells than Jerry.

I was furious at Parcells for that.

He wanted Bobby Carpenter.
:mad :mad

I was against that pick from the very second they mentioned him as a possibility.

I saw Carpenter as a no talent bum who benefited from playing next to two All-American linebackers. Every time they showed his "highlights", each and every one of his plays consisted of him running free to the QB or to the ball carrier.

No rushing off the edge, no beating blockers to the point of attack, no nose for the football.

Knowing Parcells' fondness for sons of players and his relationship to Carpenter's father, I knew we were gonna take him but I kept hoping for a surprise....but it was not to be.

That draft was the one I did the least amount of research during cause of my schedule at the time. So I just took NoDak's word for it as far as Bobbeh went. Big mistake. Big. Huge.
