Jernigan in the top 5? Yikes.
He has always been very highly thought of. It's hard to get the last impression of him out of my mind though, and that was the National Championship game when he was sitting on the sideline in crucial situations because he was gassed. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth with him. Of course I still like him better then Floyd from last year.

That final impression is part of my problem, but I've just never looked at him as a top 5 guy to begin with.

I think he's a fringe first rounder honestly.

Yeah, I don't hate him as much as you. I'd be happy if Dallas drafted him at their current pick but I wouldn't consider it some massive steal as rankings like these would suggest.

"Hate"? I don't "hate" him. Just not impressed with him.

Now McCarron? I hate that guy.

I don't like McCarron at all.

Whoever compared him to Dorsey was spot on.

Nothing about his physical attributes stands out - accuracy, arm strength, mobility.....nothing.

He'll be out of the league in a few years after doing a whole lot of nothing.

Does anyone think that Bridgewater really has a shot to go #1?

He'd have to have monster combine, IMO, to warrant that selection.

He's got the QB skills to be the 1st one taken, but his size will limit him and that's what is scaring teams away. At least Manziel brings a special playmaking ability to offset his size. Bortles will be a HOFer.

I expect him to run really well. He didn't do much in college with his legs but he actually has the speed to take off and go a long distance. If he doesn't run that fast I don't think it will necessarily hurt him since he was basically a pocket passer in college but if he blazes it I could see it give him a serious bump in the draft stock.

I expect all 3 QBs to run well, so I don't think that will separate any of them from the other 2. I think Bortles will measure in close to 6"6 and he'll be more accurate than some think which will give him the nod over Bridgewater. Manziel is just a wildcard.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him with a 3rd or 4th round pick. He has better size and a better arm than Dorsey.

At the very least I see him as an Alex Smith type QB, passing not running.

40 Time

Round 1

1

Houston
Teddy Bridgewater* QB

Louisville
6030 196 4.75
The Texans could go in more directions than shattered glass. New coach Billl O'Brien worked for years with George O'Leary Blake Bortles head coach at Central Florida, Johnny Manziel is right up the road in College Station & was one of the biggest playmakers in college football the last two years. Jadeveon Clowney may grow up and be all he can be playing opposite JJ Watt. A trade down is also a possibility. Teddy Bridgewater is an accurate (71% in 2013) and clutch quarterback who makes good decisions. Runs more of a traditional offense where the team huddles. Climbs the pocket well while keeping his eyes down the field. Good athlete that is smooth and consistent.

NEEDS: QB,OT,S

2

St. Louis f/Wash
Jake Matthews LOT

Texas A&M
6050 305 4.95
Jeff Fisher knows all about the Matthews bloodlines. He may still get Jake after a trade with the Browns (If there is a deal to be done) or his consolation prize may be Greg Robinson.Jake Matthews started and finished his senior year as the top left tackle prospect in the 2014 Draft. Plays strong and stout with good knee bend and leverage. Good use of hands and is diligent in his blocking technique.

NEEDS: LOT,S,WR,CB

3

Jacksonville
Johnny Manziel* QB

Texas A&M
5115 205 4.55
Johnny Manziel has innate running and passing instincts as well as a feel for the pass rush. He completed 73% of his passes from the pocket, best among quarterbacks from BCS automatic qualifier conferences. Only one first round quarterback had a better down the field throwing percentage than Manziels, 48% of passes 25 yards or longer in the past three years – that was Robert Griffin III. Despite his lack of height, he only had 12 of 864 passes batted down. Teams that missed the boat on Russell Wilson because of measurables will be giving Manziel the once over twice.

NEEDS: QB,DE,OT,LOG,C

4

Cleveland
Sammy Watkins* WR

Clemson
6010 205 4.45
Cleveland needs a quarterback. Two of the top 3 may be off the board. Look for the Browns to do a deal with St. Louis if their guy is there or a trade with the Redskins for Kirk Cousins if they think he is a franchise QB. Watkins skills will remind the old timers of Paul Warfield but bigger and faster. Video game runner Sammy Watkins leaves evaluators at a loss for descriptive adjectives. A competitive and explosive hand catcher who will reach and extend to catch a ball at the high point. He can freeze a defender’s feet, then accelerate by them. A double move magician. He can win in transition and separate against the best corners. Explosive on kickoff returns.

NEEDS:QB,RB,OG,WR,IB,S

5

Oakland
Greg Robinson* LOT

Auburn
6050 314 5.10
Greg Robinson, a declared junior, emerged as one of the draft’s top left tackle prospects during Auburn’s national championship run. Athletic with good lateral quickness to cut off the inside go. Can stone a bull rush. Powerful on down blocks. Locks out his long arms on a pass rusher’s breast plate, carrying them up the field.

NEEDS:QB,RB,LOG,DE

6

Atlanta
Jadeveon Clowney* DE

South Carolina
6064 275 4.60
Falcons need a pass rusher and all the offensive linemen they can collect in this draft.A tightend would be nice too! Will Clowney be available at 6? It could happen. Physically, Jadeveon Clowney can come off the edge like he has a hornets nest in his britches and must be game planned for. He looks like the prototype NFL defensive end from his long athletic build to his Chinese dragon arm length. If only his flashes were graded you would think he was from another planet. But the whole film is graded and you rarely get the production his physical gifts warrant. Made many plays when he was unblocked. He was on a play count most of the year because of injury. Has an explosive arm-over move that you seldom see. Can completely dominate a portion of a game or can be walled off by a tight end. His 40 tackles, 3 sacks, and 11.5 tackles for loss are underachieving for the rare talent.

NEEDS:DE/PR,OT,TE

7

Tampa Bay
Stephon Tuitt* DE

Notre Dame
6050 303 4.95
The Tampa-2 is predicated on the ability of the front four to generate a pass rush. Tuitt should draw two blockers which will help free up others that are single blocked. If he draws a single block our money's on Tuitt to beat the blocker. He can also play down inside. He is a country strong versatile 4-3 or 3-4 tackle or end. Sets the edge with technique and guile. Can press the pocket as a pass rusher then make the quarterback throw out of the well by getting his long arms up. Hustles and takes good downfield angles in pursuit. Can stack the line of scrimmage and force the ball to bounce. Recorded 49 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and 13 quarterback hurries.

NEEDS: DE,OT,LOG,TE

8

Minnesota
Blake Bortles* QB

Central Florida
6040 227 4.75
The Vikings need a QB.( Looks like Christian Ponder is more of a backup,) A defensive end,a safety to play next to Harrison Smith another linebacker.Junior Blake Bortles is a prototype looking drop back NFL quarterback. He stands tall in the pocket and was the game manager in a run based offensive scheme. He ranked 21st in the country in total offense with 296.4 yards per game. He completed 67.8% of his passes and averaged 9.4 yards per attempt.

NEEDS:QB,DE,CB,OG

9

Buffalo
Taylor Lewan OT

Michigan
6070 315 5.25
Taylor Lewan elevated his game as a left tackle in 2014. He can set the edge with his lateral quickness and hook the defensive end. Positions and dominates the defender. A big man with a thick lower body. Good feet in space as a puller or can road grade as a base blocker.

NEEDS: OT,OG,S,DE/PR

10

Detroit
Darqueze Dennard CB

Michigan State
5110 200 4.50
New defensive coordinator Teryl Austin may like Justin Gilbert better because he is taller with longer arms but Darqueze is a plugin and play man-to-man defender. He is a physical corner in coverage and on run support. Reroutes receivers and keeps position on them. Has a closing burst when called on to blitz. An aggressive wrap tackler who is smart and instinctive.

NEEDS: CB,WR,C,

11

Tennessee
Anthony Barr OLB/P

UCLA
6040 245 4.48
The Titans need to generate a pass rush in their new 3-4 scheme and Ray Horton knows just what to do with the explosive and productive Anthony Barr by widening him out and turning him loose. He is one of those productive athletes that are fun to scout. He elevated his overall game despite pass protections set his way. The rangy scheme diverse linebacker plays low with good knee bend and hip flexibility. Almost impossible to hook with his long arms, lateral agility, and good athletic ability. Can run down plays from the backside. Barr collected 65 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and 5 forced fumbles in 2013.

NEEDS: OLB/PR, S,QB,OT

12

New York
Justin Gilbert CB

Oklahoma State
6000 200 4.49
If the Giants didn't have bad luck with their corners they wouldn't have any luck at all. Gilbert is a rangy long armed playmaker that also doubles as a dynamic kick return specialist. He is a good sized corner who is always in position to make a play on the ball. Can turn and run with good hip flexibility or stick his foot in the ground and drive on the ball carrier in front of him. Good hands to pluck the interception or return kicks. Will miss tackles with just a shoulder hit at times.

NEEDS:LB,CB,OG,

13

St. Louis
Marqise Lee* WR

USC
6000 195 4.45
A safety, corner or OT is a fall back depending on what happens at 2. Lee would slide right in as the feature receiver for Sam Bradford. Don't let the fall of 2013 put you to sleep on this human highlight film. Marqise Lee was nicked up in 2013 but flashed glimpses of his previous two highlight reel years at Southern Cal. Sudden quickness out of his breaks. Competitive at the ball. Has elite speed to run by corners on deep vertical routes. Explosive kickoff return specialist averaging 28.5 yards per return. He owns or shares 22 USC records. The Rams are in an arms race with Seattle,San Francisco & Arizona. They can go in several directions to stop or top their NFC West foes.

NEEDS: LOT,S,WR,CB

14

Chicago
Louis Nix III* DT/NT

Notre Dame
6020 326 5.30
The Bears must gum up the inside running lanes and Louis Nix III is just the guy to do it. Did you ever try to move an Oak tree that's deeply rooted? He can dig in.He has the talent to be the next Vince Wilfork. Stout at the point of attack. Gets push up the middle as a pass rusher. Explosive space occupier who absorbs blockers and keeps his linebackers free. Disruptive enough to force plays deep. Gets his hands up in the throwing lane. Quick off the ball and locks out and sheds. Finishes plays.

NEEDS:DT,S,OC,OG

15

Pittsburgh
Cyrus Kouandjio* OT

Alabama
6050 310 5.10
Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama’s left tackle, had an up and down year, but is oozing with talent. Locks on defender with his big hands and long arms. Aggressive in the run game and moves his feet well as a pass protector. Had a rough go in the Sugar Bowl when Oklahoma put a small speed linebacker on his outside edge and he gave up two sacks. A safety or a corner is also in the mix.

NEEDS:OT,S,CB,

16

Baltimore
Mike Evans* WR

Texas A&M
6050 225 4.55
BALTIMORE OR DALLAS WILL HAVE THE 16TH PICK. WHOEVER WINS THE COIN TOSS.The Ravens need help in the offensive line and at corner. 17

Dallas
Khalil Mack OLB

Buffalo
6030 245 4.65
The Cowboys need to generate a pass rush opposite Demarcus Ware in the Tampa-2. Mack can widen out and bring it. His versatility as a hand-in-the-dirt pass rusher or a standup outside linebacker helps his stock. He features an explosive and sudden first step when rushing the passer. For the past four years he has been a disruptive playmaker despite teams’ accounting for him on every play. He led the Bulls with 100 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, and 5 forced fumbles.

NEEDS: DE/PR,CB,S,DT

18

New York
Eric Ebron* TE

North Carolina

The Jets need receivers that can catch, a left guard, a corner, etc .Eric Ebron fills a major need as a receiver and a TE.He lines up wide or in the slot and can beat coverage with strength, athleticism, and quickness. He is equally as skilled catching a screen, crosser, or vertical route.

Miami
Zack Martin OG/OT

Notre Dame
6041v 305v 5.15e

Plays left tackle from a preset two-point stance. Good mirror and slide in pass protection. Slides his feet while squaring up the pass rusher. Sits down and locks out. Must work to bend his knees and not grab a speed rusher. Aggressive in his play. Good position and sustain. Question anchor strength at times if he loses his knee bend. Physical on down blocks. May be best suited to play right tackle on Sundays. Can be beat inside at times. Had a good battle with Jadeveon Clowney in the 2012 Outback Bowl.

We love mock drafts. But let's face reality: Any mock draft done before the NFL Scouting Combine, pro day workouts and free agency lacks all the necessary information.
But at least it's a start. And that's what Mock No. 1 is for me. I watch a ton of college football during the season -- probably more than most college football writers since I am bunkered in a hotel room every Saturday afternoon with a TV, a remote and a laptop in front of me.
I make a lot of player evaluations based on what I see each week, but until the combine and the interviews and the team gossip, plus the All-22 tapes are made available it's hard to lock in on guys.
I am not one to put a lot of stock in a combine workout, but if a corner or receiver were to run a 4.8, it would be a red flag.
The tape is what evaluations are all about. Any good general manager will tell you that.
But this is the silly season, a time when proclamations about top picks being decided already are made, which is pure foolishness. Nobody has done that yet -- especially without an Andrew-Luck-type player in this draft.
Let the process play out. We have three more months to play the Mock Draft Game. There will be a lot of them. So don't overreact to this one.
It's way too early for that.

NFL Mock Draft - 02/11/2014
Round 1
1. Houston Texans

(2-14)
Blake Bortles, QB, UCF: I know there will be a push for Johnny Manziel, but Bill O'Brien seems to be a pocket-passer guy.
2. St. Louis Rams (from Washington)

(7-9)
Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M: I know some think Greg Robinson has moved ahead of him, but this is the safe, sure choice.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars

(4-12)
Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina: This is a premier pass rusher for a team that needs one in the worst way.
4. Cleveland Browns

(4-12)
Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M: This would seem to be a natural fit. They need a quarterback in the worst way.
5. Oakland Raiders

(4-12)
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville: They finally get the passer they've been looking to get for years.
6. Atlanta Falcons

(4-12)
Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn: They have to get help for Matt Ryan up front. He took way too many shots last season.
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

(4-12)
Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson: Vincent Jackson isn't a kid, and they lack the big-time speed outside. Could go for a pass rusher.
8. Minnesota Vikings

(5-10-1)
Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo: New coach Mike Zimmer has a big task in trying to rebuild that defense. He needs to get faster.
9. Buffalo Bills

(6-10)
C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama: They need speed next to Kiko Alonso. Mosley will be a 10-year starter.
10. Detroit Lions

(7-9)
Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State: They go for the in-state product to help upgrade a secondary that needs it in the worst way.
11. Tennessee Titans

(7-9)
Marqise Lee, WR, Southern California: They need a deep threat to go with Kendall Wright. Oh, they also might need a quarterback. But who?
12. New York Giants

(7-9)
Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA: They have little speed at linebacker, and it shows. Yes, they need offensive line help but they can wait on that.
13. St. Louis Rams

(7-9)
Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M: They have fast, smaller guys. They need a bigger receiver like Evans (6-foot-5, 225 pounds) to complement them.
14. Chicago Bears

(8-8)
Hasean Clinton-Dix, FS, Alabama: Their secondary was bad in 2013. They need help on the back end.
15. Pittsburgh Steelers

(8-8)
Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame: He is a perfect fit in their defense. They have to get better inside.
16. Baltimore Ravens

(8-8)
Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama: Both of Baltimore's tackles are unrestricted free agents. They'll lose at least one, maybe both.
17. Dallas Cowboys

(8-8)
Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State: They could lose Jason Hatcher and they need help inside anyway. Did you see who they played there with some last season?
18. New York Jets

(8-8)
Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina: They have to get some help for the passing game. This kid has the look of a future star.
19. Miami Dolphins

(8-8)
Zach Martin, OT, Notre Dame: Miami has to improve that offensive line. Martin showed at the Senior Bowl he can play outside and inside.
20. Arizona Cardinals

(10-6)
Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan: They have to get better at left tackle. Local kid who could step in and play right away.
21. Green Bay Packers

(8-7-1)
Ra'shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota: The Packers have three defensive linemen scheduled to become free agents. They need to find a potential replacement.
22. Philadelphia Eagles

(10-6)
Calvin Pryor, FS, Louisville: They had big problems on the back end last season. Pryor would start right away.
23. Kansas City Chiefs

(11-5)
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU: They have to get somebody to emerge opposite Dwayne Bowe. Beckham Jr. was a polished player for the Tigers.
24. Cincinnati Bengals

(11-5)
Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State: With Leon Hall coming off an Achilles' tendon injury, Cincinnati must get younger at corner.
25. San Diego Chargers

(9-7)
Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida: They had big problems outside last season, so they have to try and upgrade in a division where you face Peyton Manning twice.
26. Cleveland Browns (from Indianapolis)

(4-12)
Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State: Cleveland needs a weapon outside to go with Josh Gordon. Benjamin would give them a huge complementary target.
27. New Orleans Saints

(11-5)
Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia: Right tackle Zach Strief is an unrestricted free agent. If the Saints can't get him re-signed, this makes sense. If Strief re-signs, they could draft a receiver or pass rusher.
28. Carolina Panthers

(12-4)
Jason Verrett, CB, TCU: They got by with so-so corner play last season. It's time they upgraded it. The pass rush can't cover it up forever.
29. New England Patriots

(12-4)
Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech: With Rob Gronkowski coming off another injury and Aaron Hernandez in jail, they need another weapon in the middle of the field. They love double-tight looks for when Gronk does come back.
30. San Francisco 49ers

(12-4)
Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State: He is a talented corner with good size. Doesn't everybody want that now?
31. Denver Broncos

(13-3)
Dee Ford, DE, Auburn: With Von Miller coming off an injury and Shaun Phillips getting up in age, adding another pass rusher makes sense.
32. Seattle Seahawks

(13-3)
Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee: They had trouble up front on the line this season and Breno Giacomini is a free agent.

I would be disappointed with Jernigan as the pick with better values left on the board.

I get we need a DT, but I don't think he is the best player available with who got picked afterwards. In fact, I don't think he is the best second DT in this draft (first if you consider Nix a true NT), which is what Prisco is basically saying.

Yeah, I missed that Hageman was still there. Hageman would be who I would take if both were available.

I'd take Martin and Pryor, maybe even Ford over him too.

Do not like the player.
