I think Murray must be one of these guys that works super hard, has the great attitude and says everything perfectly to the coaches. But on game day he is warmed over shit. He can't cover, he can't stop the run. He isn't physical at all. Every time I watch him out there I'm like this dude looks like he is giving a half ass effort. But the coaches love him because of what a great dude and leader he is. So they keep putting him out there despite the game tape telling them the complete opposite. I'm not saying Logan Wilson is some stud but I have no idea how you are still playing Murray.

And the worst part of all this is that the one position I trusted Eberflus on was LBer. I thought he might not be a great defensive coordinator but he knows how to get the most out of LBers. And yet here we are and our LBers are as big of problem as any on the defense. I think an interim defensive coordinator would be better at this point. Our defensive coordinator is like a blind man. He can't see the flaws in what he is doing, he can't see the positives in what he isn't doing. He is just going through the motions and nothing more.

But the most important thing is that we had a 2nd round grade on him coming outta college.

I'm fine with getting the guy and seeing if you can coach him up. The problem is when you realize you can't coach him up, you have to move on. Sort of like we did with Elam earlier this year. Some guys are just draft busts that can't be fixed.

Yep and the other problem is their propensity to fly without a net. So when you get a guy like him and it doesn't work, who do you have to turn to? Nobody because you assumed that it was going to work out so you bring him in and install him as a starter and important piece in the unit without having a via option if it doesn't work out.

As a former Sooner, his effort embarrasses me.

It's like watching Deion Sanders line up at LB. Pretty much nothing but business decisions.

For a guy who is built like Tarzan he plays like Jane. He literally starts by fading backwards on running plays and when someone comes to engage him he fades further backwards. I don't get it.

And you'd think he would at least make his drops then in coverage. But nope he stinks at that too and looks uncoordinated.

I'd take Bobby Carpenter over him at this point.

Like 40 something Bobby Carpenter.

Half his plays are business decisions, and the other half out of position. When he occasionally stumbles into a stop or an actual good play it feels like luck or an accident, not technique or method.

He’s lost all physicality and is mailing it in for as long as he can convince some random team his draft pedigree makes him worth taking a chance on. Jerry’s always, always been a sucker for that.

Yeah but to hear Schotty talk about him he always mentions his name like he is one of his best guys. He really must be a super great guy.

What’s Wilson look like when he’s out there instead? Is there much difference if they still in a time share?

I think this is exactly it. I think he is serious, he does try hard, and he is smart enough (they made him the green dot pretty quickly). And that's why it's harder for them to bench him.

But they need to do it anyway.

Was doing some searching on how Eberflus got the job in Chicago and what made anyone think his defenses were so good that they needed him as HC.

Without doing too deep a dive on it, I'm still not finding much detail -- AI isn't totally there yet in terms of stuff like this -- but again, his defenses at Indy were top 10-ish... 10, 18, 9, 10 in points allowed. And the last two years - which probably weighed heavily - he had Jacksonville and Houston in his division. Those two teams were so bad that they had the #1 and #3 overall picks in those drafts. (In 2021, Houston had it traded to SF, where they picked the legendary Trey Lance.) Without looking much more, those four games against pathetic teams - two of the three worst in football - have to help your ranking by at least a few spots, and maybe more than that.

Pretty flimsy resume to me. And it's not like he has personality or leadership qualities on his side, either.

As much as I hate changing DCs every year, keeping him would almost certainly be worse.
