Come on, bro.
I assume this is in reference to Carter because you have a fetish for the Eagles, so please tell me why you'd take Carter when Williams is still in his prime?

You're freaking out over the stats Williams has put up, how about Carter's 1 sack, 2 TFL and 9 QB hits so far this year?

For the next 3 years I think they're basically the same type of player, same for Lawrence and Simmons, and maybe Jones as he ages.

That's why I said if we're talking 5 years I go Carter because of age, but for the next 3ish? Toss up.

No, I misread your post.

I thought you were saying you'd take Williams over those guys.

I would take Carter over Williams FWIW.

For age I would too otherwise its a pick your flavor. Williams is a much better run defender. Carter is a better pressure guy.

Doesn't sound like there is much chance of getting rid of the DC after Jer's comments how he regrets going through coordinatiors.
This year? No chance.

Our only hope is that they get rid of him after the season but even then I have my doubts that they will.

Gotcha, I get taking Carter just because of the age thing, I just personally don't think we'll see significant drop-off from Williams until he's about 32.

But obviously having a player of similar caliber and who is several years younger is safer.

Imagine if they took this approach going into McCarthy's last season.
They don't do anything proactively, they wait until they're punched in the face by a shitty season or the Parsons nonsense.

When things are going relatively well they're more than happy to stick their heads in the ground and hope for the best.

So that's why from 2021-23 you didn't see this sort of aggressive action.

After Jerry's comments he is Teflon for the length of his contract.

I'd bet good money that he'll not only finish out this year, but next year as well. Jerry has already told us, in no uncertain terms.

We might hate it, but that will change nothing. Might as well resign ourselves to that fact.

Yep, that’s been my thinking the last several years as well. The cowboys are always reactive. Not proactive. They run when the league is passing. They pass when the league is running. Always a season behind. They see a shiny object while their team flounders and decide to react to whatever trend is happening. By then the meta has shifted and been figured out and now it’s a day late and a dollar short.

We had the arguable best nfl pass rusher on our team and we got shredded by running games. So finally we realize we have to strengthen our middle and now we dont have a pass rusher. We have no secondary to speak of, I guess we’ll address that right as some other part of our team build is imploding.

it’s just how they do things and it’s frustrating.

I tried (albeit not very hard) to find the length of the contract that he signed but could only find that coaches contracts aren't public knowledge. Have you seen for sure that it was just a 2 year signing?

I know he us here for the length of the contract. Just wanted to know for sure how long we have to endure.

Fun fact for those that may be down on our pass rushers. Or the future of the Cowboys pass rush I just read that EZ actually leads all rookies in "splash" statistics. Which is like Sacks, tackles for loss, turnovers, third down stops etc. I know it has felt like a slow start for him and he has come on the last couple of weeks. I just think it puts into perspective the learning curves with rookies. You actually have one of the top performing edge rookies right now. And so any thought that you're going to draft someone and they will come in right away and have a big impact on defense as a D-lineman is probably a long shot. Which also helps put into perspective why we traded for Williams. He is going to have a way bigger impact over the next few years than any rookie D-lineman we were likely to draft.

No, not for sure. I thought I remembered hearing once that it was for two. But who knows? Maybe we'll have the pleasure of having him for three. Or more...
