Random Thoughts:
-The Guyton/Steele battle royale for who can manage to be shittier continues. Just as soon as I think one guy is starting to take the lead (as the shittier player) the other guy has some fuck up that singlehandedly kills a drive within a drive or two. The two of them are basically the only weak links on offense.
-One of the underrated problems on defense is that our CB's outside of Bland are completely horrific tacklers, Elam in particular. I can give dumbo Bridges a pass because he shouldn't even be on the field and he's a rookie but the effort to support the run from Elam is terrible. With every passing game I warm up more to going CB in the first as long as they're a physical tackler, plus obviously being strong in coverage.
-Despite only 17 points I feel like the offense and Dak were generally good. I think the pressure from the Broncos defense combined with our defense being so shit finally pushed him to stretch for plays which led to picks, but I thought he did a great job escaping pressure and doing what he could to keep us in the game. We were in scoring range almost every drive against an elite defense, there were just a few mistakes and one terrible holding call on Steele that kept extra points off the board.
-We were obviously never going to win this game with the defense playing like it was, but the turning point was late in the 2nd quarter when it was 2nd and 1 on the opening set of downs and we couldn't get the first to jump start a drive. Keep that drive going right before the half, maybe get a FG and make it 20-13 while getting the opening kickoff in the 3rd and it's a tight game. Instead they tripped on their dicks a bit, punted it back with about 2:30 to go and of course we all know this defense is at least 50/50 to give up a TD in that scenario, which they did making it 27-10.
-Murray is about the dumbest LB I've ever seen, perfect example of a million dollar body and a 10-cent head. He looks good at times because of his athleticism and downhill ability but against more nuanced offenses you just see him chasing his tail. It's a shame you can't put Sanborn's brain in his body, but instead we're left with two guys who should only be bit players.
-I legitimately think that around 70% or so of their passing yards came directly against Bridges and Clark. I know for a fact that the first 3 passing TD's were their fault, plus who knows how many other receptions and the big PI that set up a TD.
-Hoffman has been a great fill-in, and I'd love to have him back next year since he's excellent depth, but the more he plays the more of a liability he becomes. It's obvious why there was never really much of a TC battle last year between him and Beebe for the starting spot.
-Despite the offense kind of sputtering Pickens was still awesome and had some huge catches, gotta re-sign him whether it's 28, 30 or 32/year.
-It was cool for about a quarter thinking Blue might not actually be a shit bird, then he goes and has some soft ass fumble that shows everyone why the staff has been so hesitant to trust him. With the type of offense Schottenheimer wants to run we have to prioritize RB2 next year to give Blue some competition. He has potential but you can't just pencil him in as the RB2 next year.
-I said it last week but Fowler is quietly starting to turn it on some with some impressive rushes. You don't always see it because the coverage is so bad that QB's can get the ball out in around 2-2.5 seconds, but he had at least two very legit edge rushes today where he showed nice bend around the corner.
-Williams is quite possibly our worst edge player (either him or Kneeland) and seems to be reverting back to his weekly mental fuck up's. This week it was a personal foul, last week he's lucky they didn't call the offsides on a punt that would've given the Shitskins a first down, and in terms of normal game play he was the edge on the side of the big TD run that made it 7-3. The guy should be playing behind Ezeiruaku, Clowney, Fowler and Houston.
