Parsons has always been a force of nature. I don't need to watch Packers games to know that. But he isn't coming back so I might as well worry about what we have.

Maybe the Packers never get behind in a game and need someone on defense to step up and stop an opposing balanced attack. Hey if that’s the case then Parsons will remain the NFL’s most overhyped and dominant defender, until late November or so when the sacks dry up regardless of the situation.

But sooner or later I think they will be playing a good team without the lead. It doesn’t seem like there are a lot of those kinds of teams in the NFC right now, but that always changes.

It does not say “different”. This is them showing off things they still could have done regardless. Best thing is that now Parsons is gone, they do not have to send Cap Waiter Boi to school to figure it all out, which is nice.

Yea, they've never been creative with this stuff and getting rid of Parsons just allows them to do these things within their comfort zone, which they could've mostly done even if they had re-signed him.

We could've definitely extended Smith and probably one of Bland/Pickens.

For all of this to really be worth it they need to sign a legit premium external FA in the next year or two.

Parsons looks exactly the same as he did here and we saw where that got us, so I'm not sure what the consternation is. They didn't get enough in a trade, they should've been more proactive with re-signing him, they should've been smarter about the personnel they put around him, but at the end of the day he was in the playoffs 3 out of his 4 years here and did basically nothing in those four playoff games.

Maybe that changes in Green Bay because he'll improve, maybe it changes because of the team that's around him, maybe it doesn't change at all, but let's see how it plays out over 3-4 years, not 3-4 weeks.

I agree with everything you just said, except everything you said is different. Just like it's been 30 years since we traded away a player for a first round pick. Different doesn't mean good. It just means different.

The Cowboys don't want to be creative with the cap. They don't want to have to sacrifice future cap money to try to create a super talented roster that can win a Superbowl. They don't want to spend more money than most NFL franchises.

Clearly they had the money set aside for Parsons. So when they didn't do that deal it was a moment of, while shit now we kind of have to spend some money. Of course they did it with no forward thinking. No thought of, we can use this money to really add some talent and push for a Superbowl. Instead they took the money and were like, let's get some other deals done.

By the way I think this has very little to do with the salary cap and way more to do with actual money. The Cowboys have like 38 mil in cap space right now. Extending these guys isn't even hurting their cap. But there is real cash going out the door and thats what hurts Jerry.

You don't want great players because then you'll have to pay them top dollar?

THOSE are the guys you should pay.

It's the Fergusons of the world that are expendable. Not the Parsons.

Does anyone think the eagles won't pay Carter for example?

This I agree with. 2 Firsts and a DT holds totally different value when the team getting Parsons may actually suck. The different 2 first round picks at the end of the first doesn't even hold the same value as a single first in the top 10 of the draft.

Not sure how to feel about Clowney.

Typical mercenary floating from team to team. Talented enough to stay in the game and contribute some, but probably doesn't really like football.

Yeah he isn't going to be some sort of a team leader. I don't even think he cares if he wins a Superbowl. He will come in, play for himself and make some plays here and there. But still a pretty great athlete for a guy his size and age.
