You gotta remember, he’s likely going to a contender if traded. That means low picks this team has to hit on. maxi and Guyton don’t inspire a lot of confidence on that front lately.

That's my big problem with trading him.

Let's say it's green bay.

Two late firsts and even plus two late seconds don't move the needle for me.

Two 1's and two 2's is the price for a relatively shit team, for a team likely to be going deep into the playoffs I'd need more value in terms of picks or players.

Rashan Gary and two 1's is basically three 1's in my mind, which is why I'd be down for a deal roughly along those lines.

We can get another Mazi and Guyton with those late firsts or we could get a couple Travis Fredericks. But those picks are far from guaranteed studs in the late first.

he's also very undersized and needs to be protected both by the scheme and by having certain types of players around him. I don't think we've done a great job on either, and adding more undersized edge rushers like Fowler and Ezeiruaku doesn't help.

And yet, we've been the best defense with him on the field, and second worst with him off.

Regardless of if we think he needs to be protected or whatever, it's been mostly working extremely well.

Parsons is by far the most important piece to the defense. The idea of minimizing his importance seems silly to me. He is one of the biggest impact defenders in the NFL.

I'm not sure there's a player in the league that would be available in a trade that I'd be willing to accept as an alternative to a top half of the first round pick when the rest of the firsts are likely to be so late in the round.

Even with Gary I'm not sure I would be happy with two 1sts from the Packers and two 2nds from the Packers.

Sure, which is why I'm fine making him the highest paid non-QB in the league, within reason.

But to pretend like there aren't very strong arguments to be made for trading him is sticking your head in the sand. Namely, it's very questionable whether or not this team will be able to compete for a Super Bowl in the next year or two, at which point Parsons will be 28ish with more miles on his body, and also at which point we will likely be looking for our next franchise QB.

A deal like Gary and picks would allow us to still compete right now, because Gary is a top tier edge rusher who also balances the run defense a bit, while also providing the flexibility to aggressively go after our next QB in the next few years.

Would the organization actually do that?

It's anybody's guess, but figuring out the future at QB is more important than retaining Parsons in my opinion, and a deal like that would allow us to do almost anything we wanted at QB.

If our QB was 27 I'd have a different opinion.

Sad that’s it has devolved from Parsons willing to take less to whatever has happened where he now wants it all. I want to know why, tho I have a pretty good idea.

Jerry is the root of the issue, his agent is a jackass but as usual all roads point back to Jerry and his bullshit.

I haven't said that at all.

I'm basically saying a team like Green Bay would ideally have to pay more because of where the picks likely would be in the round.

2 firsts and 2 seconds plus a good player is not equal from GB as compared to say Jacksonville.

Given that GB is the current rumor, I'm not loving the hypothetical compensation.

None of that supposes that I wouldn't trade Micah at all. But the bar should be very high.

Gary is a top tier edge rusher

Is he?

He was 36th in sacks last year, and 28th in 2023.

He's never broken double digits in sacks in his career.

And he's 27.

He's a good player don't get me wrong, and would fill the hole left from Parsons.

But he's a massive downgrade from Parsons. And I wouldn't call him top tier.

With Green Bay specifically what would you be looking for?

I was adding in his run defense, which is excellent, when calling him top tier. But no, he's not an elite pure pass rusher, but I think he's a top tier edge in general when you add in his run defense.

Given that we have pure speed rushers on the roster like Fowler, Ezeiruaku and even Houston, I think we'd have a very good pass rush with Gary added on top, combined with very stout edge setting between Gary and Kneeland.

Yeah. As much as I love Parsons. We. Haven’t used him well. If he goes to a team that will force him to play LB and move him around it would be best for him

That is exactly why you insist on bodies.

A deal centered around three 1sts plus a good player plus two 2nds maybe.
So besides the Walker trade basically the highest price ever paid for a player in a trade?

You might as well just say you wouldn't consider trading him.

Three 1's and a player, depending on the type of player, I could see. Throwing in 2's on top of that is never going to happen.

Heard a rumor that he left town to get a second opinion on his non-existent back injury.
