This is random, but listening to the Ticket yesterday, Bob Sturm was going on about how going forward you couldn't keep Bland, and suggesting that he was just a product of one random good season with those pick-sixes. Basically acting like Bland was a scrub who got lucky one year.

I think that's absolute garbage. Bland has been good since the first time he was pressed into duty 30 minutes before a game his rookie year and played great at slot where he'd never even played before. Maybe Diggs is the one who is the product of one abnormally high-INT year? Diggs is definitely a good cover corner, but he's also always hurt and can't be bothered to tackle or play the run.

Just another example of why I question the greatness of "Sports Sturm."

I think you have to be careful what you pay him but the fact that he can also play slot makes him more valuable. I'm thinking 18-20/year is probably fair based on the contracts that were given out this year.

Agree that you can't hand him a blank check, but I seriously doubt he'll demand an outrageous number. Probably like a CB Osa-type deal.

My bigger complaint was dismissing him as pretty much a spare who just got lucky one year.

Sturm is letting his fake-GM hat blind him to reality. Bland provided an instant defensive boost the moment he returned this season. Really passed the eye test, forget the interception stats

Fun fact, Tolbert had the most snaps of any receiver on the roster last year. So this question of, can he step into the role? Was he a good #2 last year? Because that was his role. If that performance wasn't good enough, how do you not do something?

They're probably talking themselves into development from the other young guys and Ferguson coming back closer to what he was in 2023, on top of a presumably better running game.

I think we can be competitive and possibly make the playoffs with Lamb and a bunch of WR3/4's, we just aren't going to be a true contender.

Right now I'm rooting for Flournoy. Tolbert is what he is. Brooks wasn't even a go to receiver in college. Mingo is just not good in my opinion.
I'm left with Flournoy because I don't dislike him. Hopefully the team beings someone else in.

Yea, I mean I think they have hope for them but they were also ready to take a WR at 12, it's just a matter of an opportunity coming up that fits the way they want to operate.

Otherwise they're ok going in with a less-than-ideal situation and hoping for the best.

If it were me I'd sign Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper.

Neither is overly dynamic at this point but they're high floor options that can make us more competitive if none of the younger guys improve. I'm not interested in giving up a round 2/3 pick for someone like Pickens given his off-field stuff, I might consider a 3rd for Pierce, Johnston or Sutton but I don't think those would be slam dunk trades.
