They disagree dishonestly and without a scintilla of evidence. The very definition of life encapsulates what a fertilized embryo is. It's unequivocally human cells and living under every scientific definition. The argument about it not being "life," is completely disingenuous.

They would have a better argument saying "It isn't formed enough to warrant protection," but that more technical argument doesn't whip up idiots into a frenzy about Republicans hating womens' bodies.

I'll say this about science, people love to say things like "it's science" and I wonder do these people even understand how science works? It's not like math where 1+1 = 2. Science is theories and they change all the time. Science is hypothesis and then you set out to prove your hypothesis. It's never really set in stone. Yes there is a pure truth in there but Science is meant to be challenged. It's like Global warming, everyone just assumes it's true. But it's really just a theory.

Anyway, rant over. I'll agree that life starts at conception. But is it a life? And frankly this is wondering more into philosophy than science.

If we are going with science, show me a definition that doesn't indicate a group of cells growing into a fully functional animal doesn't constitute life. A group of cells in a petri dish that is bacteria is considered life.

A few years back, I was discussing/arguing abortion with a cousin of mine. She is staunchly in support of abortion rights, and how the evil republicans have no right in this area. Her claim is a 'fetus' isn't viable thru the 2nd trimester, therefore it shouldn't yet be considered a baby and deserve the same protections.

I knew I shouldn't have, but fuck it. I'd had enough of her bullshit. I asked her if it is only a collection of cells that isn't yet a baby, then why was she so broken up about her sister having a miscarriage while still in the first trimester. Why was she going on, and on, and on via facebook over the loss of her future niece/nephew? Did she consider it an actual baby then?

She no longer speaks to me.

Also I think a baby has survived being born during the second trimester so she may also just not be that bright.

Again, you want to ban the morning after pill and I think people are taking it too far. You want to abort a 24 week old fetus and I think you've gone too fucking far.

Beyond that, I'm ok with States making a decision between those two lines. The decision should be for the states but any state that supports anything outside of that is fucking evil.

Same here. Even as smart as he is, he was a little uncomfortable when I saw him on some show six or so months ago. Now he's really hitting his stride.
