I'm getting strong Jim Zorn-type vibes from Jay Gruden.

That's a pretty bad hire, I have no idea why Gruden is a hot name, the Bengals offense isn't even that productive considering they are near the top of the league in defensive TD's. If this guy was named Jay Madison would he be getting consideration for HC spots?

Zimmer has to really feel like the asshole. This shit fields an offense that can't break the top 20 and gets a HC gig on name only.

From everything I read, it's Zimmer being an asshole is why he isn't a HC. "Too brash" is the term I kept reading.

Redskins hired Jay Gruden as their head coach on a five-year deal.

In 2011, Gruden left the UFL to take over a Bengals offense that ranked 20th in the league the previous season. He leaves them as a top-10 unit despite the uneven play of quarterback Andy Dalton and somewhat vanilla schemes. Gruden, the 46-year-old younger brother of ESPN's Spider 2 Y Banana, gives Redskins owner Dan Snyder the name value he always seeks and GM Bruce Allen the man he knows from their time together in Tampa. Skins tight ends coach Sean McVay is expected to be promoted to offensive coordinator, while holdovers Jim Haslett and Raheem Morris have both been named as candidates for the defensive coordinator job. The Bengals' three straight first-round playoff exits and Gruden's public hesitancy to run the read-option surprisingly did nothing to extinguish his market. He'll install a pass-heavy scheme, but it's not an upgrade for the prospects of Robert Griffin III.

This McVay guy is 27 who literally got a job in the NFL right out of college because of some good old boy network bullshit with Bruce Allen and now he's the OC?

What a joke the Redskins and the NFL in general are.

That no only sounds like a horrible coaching group but it is also a horrible fit for their players. It's like Snyder just threw up his hands and gave up and was like "F*ck it just pick some dudes, I'm done trying."

They are sure putting a lot of stock into two things:

1) RGII is actually healthy
2) RGIII is a pocket passer not a product of the read-option

We shall see

Yea it's a complete joke, there is no way on God's green Earth that any random kid gets a legit NFL coaching job right out of college unless they have their dad/grandfather/whatever stumping for them and pulling strings, laughable.

And now he's an OC?

At 27?

You gotta be shitting me.

You guys know what this is?

Bruce Allen consolidating power.

This dude fired the two Shannahans, maybe a handful of position coaches, hires this mediocre OC as his HC because he worked with him before and pretty much keeps the rest of the staff, including simply elevating two position coaches to OC/DC. It seems to me that they're just putting all the blame on Shannahan and Allen is keeping around a bunch of his cronies.

I mean really, you're going to elevate some 27 year old dipshit to OC because you drank and went to strip clubs with his dad back in the day?

Raheem Morris at DC?

Keeping basically the entire staff from a team that went 3-13?

If the Cowboys did something like that this place would be burnt to the ground by now.

I should think Cowboy fans would rejoice at this hiring.
