So if you have a new acquaintance and you mispronounce their name and they (politely) correct it, you won't even make an attempt?

Politics compared to interpersonal relationships are not in the same stratosphere.

It's a political game to insist on a certain pronunciation (and to label mispronouncing it as racist or whatever) just as it's a political game to refuse.

This ain't a burgeoning friendship.

You're talking about two different types of people. If it were like a new friend or whatever, sure. When it comes to that knob slobbing bitch, nope. I will purposely pronounce it that way on purpose. (I already did)
I get that an completely understand...

I guess I should've separated the two thoughts in my OP...

If Mace had simply said: "Where has all of this consternation over the pronunciation of her name been the last four years?" instead of "I'll call her whatever I want". it would have instantly shut them down.

The second part was unrelated to that video.

It's okay to call Trump a Nazi and Hitler, but it's racist to mispronounce someone's name? Sorry, but that's bullshit.

But why reduce yourself to their level? What does that accomplish?

But why reduce yourself to their level? What does that accomplish?

What does following their orders accomplish?

For that matter, what does correcting the pronunciation accomplish?

Here's the thing.

If you say that if someone does a thing is racist when it's not, then someone does the thing, and you ask them to stop doing it...if the person agrees then they are also tacitly agreeing to your original false premise that the thing is racist.

My guess is that they are insisting on COMala instead of ComeAllah because A. it gives them yet another opportunity to accuse conservatives of being racist and B. they don't like that the other pronunciation invokes Allah and puts the notion of her being less than American in people's subconscious.

Lastly...

I don't even know how this is a conversation.

I think it's just the old Obama playbook: "If you criticize him at all, you're a rAcIsT!"

Fortunately, I think most people have gotten smarter since those years when they fell for that garbage.

I mean, they hate Clarence Thomas with the heat of a thousand suns, but that's perfectly okay for them. Truth or consistency is not a left wing value.

Ok, I wasn't commenting on the claim that "mispronouncing someone's name is racist "b/c it's an absurd notion on its face.

I would rather have seen Mace take the "high road" by asking why this hasn't been an issue in the past... or she could've turned it around by saying: "what, you don't approve of the way I speak?"

You're right it is a game and in this game optics are huge and her saying: "I'll call her what I want" was not a good look.

Oh, props on the Young Frankenstein reference. :thumbsup
