I think he was a more talented athlete than Emmitt and even the better pure runner, but he was not a better RB.Sanders was the one RB that legit was scary.
I realize it is blasphemy, but he was a better RB than Emmitt Smith.
Amazing talent and one of the few football players you'd pay just to watch them alone.
A better pure runner, yes, but not tougher nor better in short yardage and nowhere near as good in pass protection. It’s a lot like comparing Randy Moss to Jerry Rice. Do you take the most talented or the best to ever play?I realize it is blasphemy, but he was a better RB than Emmitt Smith.
All around? Nope. Better pure runner? Sure. I’ll give you that. But Emmitt was better every where else. If I’m starting a team, I take Emmitt every time.
Talking about Emmitt in the NFL nostalgia thread and work ethic in the Random Cowboys Thread. I love this board.![]()
2nd and 3rd best QB in team historyWell, shit, while we're at it let's a do an Aikman/Staubach debate.
Aikman was the better pure passer, but Stabauch was the better all around QB.I think Aikman was the better passer, but Staubach had more tools with his legs. Discuss.
Can't argue with that. And he's one of the GOATS at the position at being clutch.
When I think of how it changed the NFL, I think of things like this at the 1:15 mark:
They couldn’t because he was not nearly as productive. Sanders had the numbers when he retired.Amen. Sanders was flashier, sure. Gale Sayers was flashier too and no one argued he was the greatest.
They couldn’t because he was not nearly as productive. Sanders had the numbers when he retired.
Emmitt was a TD machine too.Over Sayers, sure. Mostly because Sayers had a much lower usage and broke down very young.
I'm just saying the flashiness alone isn't enough to say Sanders is better than Emmitt.
Emmitt's goalline leaps were incredible.Emmitt was a TD machine too.
Barry would get subbed out near the goalline because he was unreliable in short yardage.
I can't think of too many things more damning to a RB than your coach not having full confidence in your ability to get the tough yards when you absolutely have to have them.
