Does anybody actually think we should keep McCarthy?

And I don't want to hear about, "well the GM needs to go, etc, etc", given what we know the reality of this team is, does anybody think McCarthy should be the HC next year?
I definitely think he needs to go. That team was not mentally prepared for this game. You could see it in their body language.

People can poo poo on Belichick all they want but I think he can at least have the team ready to play. He’s a manipulator much like his mentor, Parcells or, dare I say, Jimmy.

If he can get Vrabel to come along and find a good WC coordinator (I think Dak thrives in the WCO), we can be better off.

If yesterday convinced them to trade or cut Dak, that would be a best case outcome.

But it won't.
If Cowboys trade Dak Prescott, I’m speculating this is what it’d look like:
  • Guesstimating at least $40M cap hit for 2024. Clean hands afterwards.
  • A mix of 2nd, 3rd rounder and change. Nobody’s giving us a 1st
  • Cooper Rush and Trey Lance ($5M 2024 cap hit) as your 2024 QB tandem. We have 2024 draft #24 slot

In similar situations, the Eagles (Wentz) and Packers (Rodgers) were able to trade away and accept the cap hits because they already had succession plans to Jalen Hurts and Jordan Love. (Surprisingly, both teams made the playoffs their first season). We are in a different spot and will join the rest of the NFL in full QB search mode without cap space until 2025 (maybe) and without a high 2024 draft pick.

The team came in pretty full of themselves.

From Prescott’s HERE WE GOOO cap, Lawrence’s LAW necklace and even Parsons cosplaying Bobby Boucher.

Hey did you hear about our nine Pro Bowlers?

They were already thinking about their second home playoff game and thought an NFL team with pride would just lay down.

The coach owns part of that, but again, the culture of eating the cheese will drive the failure.

His QBs were Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick, and yet he got to a super bowl. That says a lot to me.
Of course it does. People who don't consider the QB the coach has to work with are morons.

I might see MM staying, getting credit for 3 consecutive years of 12 wins plus postseason play. Helping Dak to a strong year, only to see the bad resurface Dak at crunch time.

But then again, asking Dak to throw the ball 60 times is courting disaster. Which highlights the lack of a running game, a personnel failure that's on Jerry/Stephen.

Quinn should be out the door already. His failure yesterday is larger in my eyes.

  • No QB pressure (isnt that supposed to be our calling card?)
  • No run D, per usual
  • No takeaways (Love looked far better than Dak)
  • No TFL's
  • Doubs and Musgrave owned the secondary outright

How could they possibly play worse?

Quinn's HC opps just fizzled up; his stock sucks about now.
I mean they didn't ask him to throw it 60 times. They had to throw it 60 times because they got their ass kicked on defense.

Just saw Rex Ryan livid with the defense and no adjustments.

Did Green Bay really run it down our throats when the game was in balance? Not really. It was Love and throwing the ball.

Jones had 38 yards his first 13 carries into the 3rd quarter. Then once they had the big league 80 yards in his next 10. Our defense quit by then. Embarrassing.

And this is why I advocate rolling the dice on a Belichick or Harbaugh, take a swing on a HC with skins on the wall who might be able to shift the culture and get these guys heads out of their asses in the playoffs.

Might work, might not, but Jerry isn't going anywhere until he's dead so that's about all you can do at this point.

The defense was horrific, there is no doubt about that.

But that is independent of Dak's suckage. Heard the stat that until it was 27-7, Dak had thrown for 61 yards with two INTs, including a pick-six.

I think Belichick would end up a lot like Parcells, maybe some temporary improvement

Except Parcells took over a three straight 5 win team. Temporary improvement for him was playoffs losses.

Bellichick would be taking over a three straight 12 win team. Temporary improvement might actually mean getting further than we have in almost 3 decades.

Exactly. The bad defense forces us to pass, and bad Dak reappears to compound the problem.

He played like shit. However, did you see guys running open in the secondary? I said it yesterday, the Packers had guys running open, the Lions, the Rams, the Texans, today I'm sure the Bills will.

We've had games where guys our running open all game. Not yesterday. You want to blame Dak for that? Ok. I blame McCarthy and his scheme/playcalling. He got thoroughly outcoached by his replacement in embarrassing fashion.

I blame them all. McCarthy, Dak, Quinn, Micah, the defense as a whole, Jerry, trainers, team security, the cheerleaders, the PA guy, everyone else you can think of.

My only issue with what you are saying is that you seem to be absolving Dak for some of this.

Basically your argument seems to be, the coaching sucked what do you want Dak to do?

I want him to play like the elite QB he's being paid to be. The coaches sucked too, but they didn't throw those picks and those off target passes and take bad sacks when he should have thrown it away, and so forth.

Show me a receipt. The only time I sunshine pumped after a loss was after the Philly loss because I thought we outplayed them.
I know what @chevycowboys is talking about. Several times towards the end of the season you downplayed our poor performance by saying things like " this doesn't affect our playoffs position". It looked to me like you were being dismissive and unconcerned.

He threw it 60 times because we were down by a billion. We actually ran the ball fairly effectively yesterday but obviously that goes out the window when you have to score a lot and quickly.
